ahh that's probably it. Part of me still just wants to get the SOS kit then because the T4R thing is just confusing me.. lol

You can just source the caliper brackets alone and then get whatever version or brand of T4R calipers and rotors later as well. IIRC, the brackets are somewhere around $100-$150 without anything else.

They also said the Eaton E locker has its own harness so I cant use the stock wiring or switch.. but does that mean since its on its own harness.. will my Locker light not work on the dash? I was hoping to keep this as simple and stock-ish as possible... like the truck wouldnt even know theres a different axle/locker there.

Mine is air, with a manual override key in the event of air pressure failure. I don't know anything about the E-locker setup.

You won't run any back plates at all. The T4R calipers and rotors, then order the brackets from SOS to mate up to the Tacoma axle housing flange.

but I dont see just the brackets on SOS.. lol

I'm sure they are similar to the caliper brackets for my Wilwood kit. I see them in the pictures of their kits..

Now finding another "issue".. if the new E locker isnt ran through the trucks factory harness or anything.. then no light on the dash for the Locker and it also wont turn off ABS, Traction, etc..

hmmm.. was hoping that the truck would "communicate" with the new E locker like normal.

May try calling. I think Eric is the name I remember. He was very responsive and easy to work with. He may be making some extra coin drop shipping the calipers and rotors. I think he would be willing to sell just the brackets if you call, but not for certain. He is user friendly and yes, the caliper brackets are straight forward.

I can't help with the communication piece of it. However, the ABS shut off switch mod is pretty easy and done so down on the floor by the driver's footrest.

lol.. you're gonna hate me.. but I actually do have that done already.. as well as the locker anytime mod. I rarely use the ABS killswitch (only when I want to be a jackass and have some fun with truly no aids).. but yes, technically I could hit my ABS killswitch + the new Locker button and have the same thing.. was hoping for something a little more cohesive that all worked together so I didnt have to do all that. Im just being picky now I suppose..

thinking out loud here.. but since the ABS killswitch is just a ground wire to a relay that triggers the ABS/Trac, etc.. why couldnt I wire up the new E Locker button to trigger that relay itself..

No reason why you couldn’t. I’m no electrician and have to stop and draw everything out but I don’t see why not.

Same.. very visual or hands on here.. hence my confusion above.. lolI think it would work.

Now I'm also thinking of just warranting out the 3rd, getting some fresh axle shafts and bearings, the SOS disc conversion kit and starting there with this venture. Saves a ton obviously but may not solve the actual cause and I could be here again within a year or.. maybe longer or never if everything holds together and it was axle shafts causing premature failure. I need to crack it all open and see for sure.. but would preemptively get the shafts and bearings anyways since it would be torn apart.

My reasoning for going this cheaper, just replacement route vs balls deep upgrade is that we are looking at getting a dedicated toy so the wear and tear and abuse on the Taco would be reduced drastically.

yes you can use the SOS kit. So they can install for you or they prob will just leave the backing places off. When I got my Diamond it had no backing and we added the SOS kit. I know a couple people locally that have the SOS kit on a D60 so 100% works. As @zippsub9 noted they are Tacoma Axles and ends so no issue there. Should all bolt up fine.

Makes sense. Let me know if you want to get a SOS kit. We were a dealer for SOS as well. Additionally, I have been thinking about how I can wire up the Wilwood e brakes. Mainly we just need a mount or new backing plate that has an additional mount and would be good to go. I was talking to the Wilwood guys, and they use them on armored vehicles, so they should hold up.

They likely will just remove the backing plates, so you will have just the axle and hub unless they come out with their own. Willwood also told me they are planning on a rear kit, possibly in a year or so. I have one spare backing plate/bracket lying around here (it had a bad insert).

@nudavinci64 I know the SOS kit will fit no problem.. that wasn't my concern. I'm all squared away now on all that. I'm just deciding on what direction to go now.. either upgrade or replace. The SOS kit may or may not happen. Depends on what I end up doing. I'll let you know though, I appreciate that. Will definitely reach out.

Nice! The D60 setup is hard to argue with but I know what you mean. Went though the same dilemma. Didn’t think of the credit on the diff

The factory E-locker has both an external actuator and position sensor that tells the 4WD computer if the locker is actually engaged. The Eaton just has a harness coming out that connects to the provided relay. The Eaton does not have the ability to use a position sensor and the engagement mechanisms are different. You maybe able to simulate the position sensor signal to the 4WD computer depending on what voltage it wants to see. You could then probably turn on the relay with the factor signal to the locker. There’s a few other pieces you would need to figure out probably but all theoretical.
