So I learned something with my drive shaft problems. TW says that at a minimum you should be lubing the fittings every 6k and anytime it sees dirt. I was doing it haphazardly every tire rotation (5k ish) but not the other. The last four years have seen a significant increase in "dirt" and mud and water and clearly I should have been more proactive about lubrication. I will be this time-until I forget... I definitely think we as a group who go on expeditions and such should be doing it more often than not. Two cents for what its worth. Sure is nice to have the truck back as a rear wheel driver. Tight! I had no idea how bad things had gotten...

    Pack that shit in there.

Ujoints were made to be overgreased.
Edit: was trying to find a decent pic...that streak of brown is around all my ujoints from grease slinging when I get done greasing.

I'd love to help ya more but to be quite honest, I don't really undercoat my truck.
I'll spray some Fluid Film around occasionally but that's about it.

That? That is far to clean. Mine looks the underside of my dads 55 chevy-grease everywhere! Still killed the shaft...

Did your mother ever tell you not to be so rough on things? :D

Idk what grease is 'supposed' to be used....
My last grease purchase for the ujoints I went with the NLGI#2 for farm and heavy equip.

I know on the 4Runner certain things call for a lithium-based grease.

I went with lithium-based NLGI #2 for everything because it’s acceptable for the U-joints and slide yoke.

    I guessed good. lol

I was just looking at my work stash.
    Mobilux EP2 and Mobilith SCH460
I use on most bearings and rubbing/moving parts that get greased.
For open gears I use Mobil XHP321 which is a lot heavier.

Mobilux EP2 states its for offroad use, on the pkg.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Early in the '17 production run, Toyota switched to non-greaseable joints. The replacements for my backup shaft have zerks.

    I had a choice from TW's. I chose greaseable.

Yup, and when they changed the u-joints, they changed to a different carrier bearing also. Same flanges on the TC and diff, but a 2nd gen shaft won't bolt up to a 3rd gen because of the carrier bearing.

    Rock solid.
This really has been a great set of saw horses for how inexpensive they are.
I remember my old man’s wooden ones.
Solid as all get up but always shuffling them around from shed to garage to lean-to to garage.
    And heavy.
