    Very helpful. Also great name.
I spend way more time on the road than off of it. Any real pros/cons to either of the tire sizes you mentioned? I occasionally do moderate towing, usually no heavier than a Kawasaki Mule (whatever the 6-seater is called).

I’ll be driving it a year or so, then turning it over to my son when he gets his license. I’ll let him worry about lifts and whatever else.

I just need to shed the highway style tires for now.

I’d go with the 265/75/16 then in your position. Lots of tire options in that size and the increased ground clearance that comes with the 255s you won’t really care about since your time is spent almost all on road.

255s in my experience can be a bit less “planted” at highway speeds when towing. I had a set for awhile on my 2nd gen Tacoma. Way less brand options in the 255 too. Almost all mud terrains only.

    Enjoy!

I definitely think I’ll stick with the trail edition height. Undecided on tire size, but seems 265/75r16 is the popular pick, so I’m leaning towards that.

This forum has been super helpful the last week or so, and it has also caused me to spend more money than I intended.

Going to revive this again. How big of a tire could I go on the stock trail edition suspension, with stock trail 16” wheels, and a set of .75” spacers? Would that help getting something wider/taller or both?

My answer would be neither from personal experience and research. You’ll start running into rubbing issues the bigger you go(on this set up). I’ve seen plenty of posts on tw that show how you can go bigger that require some plastic work as well as body mount chops, uca’s, alignment work, etc. None of which is too crazy but there’s a process.

also think about drivability with bigger tires and stock gearing/tuning.

My current tires are getting worn out and really want to go 285s but I think they will rub pretty bad.

    I went with 265/75r16.
Question: with a full size wheel, will a matching 5th wheel/tire fit under the truck in the spare spot?

Again, thanks for the help, everyone. Happy enough with it for now without adding any additional lift.

265/75r16 Toyo Open Country AT III in case any other stock trail edition people come looking for this same information like I did.

    Next up, headlights and taillights…

I guess since I’ve only had it a couple months I can still use this “new owner” thread I made. I have a couple more questions.

    1) I removed the trail edition boxes. Towards the front of the bed, there are now 2 screw holes on each side. Is there a U shaped tie down that would fit here? Also, what size screws do I need for these?

    2) everything I read says the bed rail tie down/hooks won’t work with the tonneau cover. Is that true? If so what is everyone using for tie down/anchor points?

I got a sticker and some cool valve stem caps...
My bedrail tie-downs work with my gator soft Tonneau Cover. U just have to know where u want them when u r installing the cover, as most covers install using clamps in the bedrail channel.

I have the Toyota OEM cover. Everything I’ve seen says they won’t work together…
