What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

That's one heck of a sturdy-looking antenna. What's it for?

 

Got my Alu-Cab third brake light re-wired. I learned fourteen things:

1. Alu-Cab doesn't label any of their wires.
2. Alu-Cab's wiring doesn't apply to any coloring scheme I've ever seen. (Blue and brown for positive and negative?!)
3. Just like reading all of the instructions, watch all of the YouTube video. Sometimes they don't edit out their mistakes and point out half-way through that they were wiring it on the wrong side and you should be using the wiring that's on the passenger's side of the canopy.
   
4. "The 9V trick." Use a 9V battery to test wires on 12V lights to confirm you're using the right ones.
5. The Alu-Cab third brake light is LED, but works even with reversed polarity.
6. My Tacoma does not work with reversed polarity on a brake light.
7. The 10A STOP fuse, like many others in my Tacoma's fuse box, requires an ATM-LP fuse.
8. I don't own any ATM-LP fuses.
9. The lid of the fuse box has three spare ATM-LP fuses in it.
10. I now need to buy at least one ATM-LP spare replacement fuse.
11. My Tacoma is a drama queen. Instead of just blowing a fuse when there's an issue with the wiring to the brake light, it proclaims "Brake Override Malfunction" from the instrument cluster and refuses to start.
12. Switching the wiring around and replacing the fuse is the Xanax to my truck's anxiety.
13. Even the ease of installation afforded by the VLED plug-and-play wiring harness and its included heat-solder connections was no match for my innate ability to turn a fifteen-minute job into an hour-long ordeal.
    
14. The operable third brake light looks cool.

Mine were sticky when I swapped them around 65k shortly after I bought it and shipped it in from North Carolina. I chocked it up to humidity, which I’m not used to in CO?

 

It's a regular old GMRS antenna, just trying to be cool like the Aussies. Strong enough to hold your gear during an open air morning dookie. Taller version in the pic.

Not sure what your location is but on the WoolWax website they have a dealer locator option that you can put in your zip code and find a shop locally.

Always good to shop around for the best price. You mentioned $899 and I think that is wayyyy too much.

I hardly use Facebook but I'm part of the Lanolin/Oil Undercoting Users group and there is a wealth of knowledge there too and you could find people local to you that way as well.

Cleaned the bed. Actually, just got the OTT tune done to my truck and no joke, it is what everyone has always said. Makes it drive like a totally different truck. Got the medium/spicy setting.
