If you run a Switch Pro or SPOD, you can just run it to that make it super easy. Free up a space on the left side for a heated steering wheel/sideview mirrors. That is what takes up space where my locker switch used to be now.

A full upgrade would obviously be awesome and the best solution. But idk if I'm ready for that right now, especially with the timing. We have been planning on picking up a toy for a little bit now.. for this reason. I'd much rather pick up another toy.. because regardless I don't want to abuse the Taco anymore. As long as it is just the abuse that's smoking the diffs.. I think it would work out.

Interesting.. I will definitely have to revisit this if I do end up going with a whole new rear end. I think triggering the relay would work.. but I'm also probably over simplifying it and may be more like what you said.

I’d say just be careful or maybe have a conversation with ECGS first. I don’t have much experience with them and the testimonials are outstanding, but if you’ve gone on record with them looking at a beefier set up because you know the current configuration is too weak for your use case, they may be less enthusiastic about an additional warranty claim if this new one snaps again. No specific knowledge here to say that, just thinking out loud. Good luck bud!

solid axle 4runner. hoping to check it out today after work.

I appreciate it. I think it will be fine due to the customer service experiences I've had with them in the past, and seeing how others here have gone through more 3rd's than I have and it still worked out. lol ECGS is by far the best in the business imo. I'd prefer to not spend 6k right now.. as that's half the cost of the toy we're looking at.. lol I would love to revisit the D60 upgrade down the road maybe.. but also wouldnt be mad if it wasnt an issue anymore after picking up a toy.

Alright, got the rear end all torn apart and the 3rd is ready to come out. Definitely had some chunk's on the magnet so we'll see what went this time. I'll get the replacement 3rd from ECGS ordered tomorrow...

For now.. I'm just going to do a rebuild and replace everything and then retire this house on wheels from hard wheeling duty. A new dedicated toy is going to happen so I think I'll save some wear and tear and extend the life of things that way. I'm at a crossroads now though because I wanted to replace the axle shafts just in case, as well as do the bearings and seals. I started looking into pre-pressed assemblies and see they are hit or miss and honestly I'd rather do OEM anyways. I'm thinking of just taking the shafts to AZ Driveshaft and having them 1) check if they are actually bent or not and 2) have them do the rebuild with fresh bearings, etc. and I can just install those on the truck with fresh seals on the axle housing side at home. I'll call AZ Driveshaft tomorrow as well and get a quote on all that.

Who knows..later I can sell this rebuilt rear end and put it towards a D60..

prob would have been good too before you tore it down to see if the entire thing is bent. When I blew the last one that led to the axle my housing was bent 5 degrees.

Yes they were all through warranty. You just call them and say you have a diff you want to warranty they ask whats going on then you send in the diff to them. Takes about a month or so to get it back.

I thought about that.. I was going to have a local shop check the axle shafts.. but yeah.. it could also be the housing itself..

Yeah... found that out just now in email. That's a bummer because I thought it would be like the Core exchange... have a new one in hand and swap in, then send back the old one in the same packaging. no downtime and better logistics. I'd rather just do another Core exchange then.. and why couldn't I?...

another lame thing.. I thought ok, maybe I will upgrade after all.. nope.. I may be able to work something out like put my warranty towards the D60 but I also want a little discount to help push me.

At this point.. I'm back to not sure on what to do... Being down a month+ sucks.. If I were waiting that long for a whole new axle at least it would be an upgrade too.

yah its a bummer. been through it a couple of times ha. It would be nice if they did a core exchange but then they have to deal with more payments and other deals. Most of the month is shipping to and from. They more or less have the diff setup in a week or so.

    the downtime kills me..

very true.. easy answer is more than replacing and waiting a month. =p

Decide soon though been 1-2 weeks of debating you would be halfway done already.
