On my 21 tacomapro I was running Nitto Ridge Grappers at 32psi for over 3 years without any problems.

On E loads? If so that’s great to hear.

The sticker speaks to standard load and PSI works completely differently with an E rated tire- It’s not a one-to-one comparison

    You’re overthinking it again…:D
A four-cylinder mini truck, what kind of load could we be talking about here…

Not that much. And yeah I overthink stuff. My truck weighs 5400 pounds empty. But still should be fine even if there’s a nonlinear drop in load capacity sub-35. Just don’t want too much sidewall deflection and overheating. Just gathering others experiences with E load tires my man.

Did you have them installed at discount tire?
Did they set pressure to 32?

The best way to know how much air your tires need is to do a chalk test and if done correctly you will be able to tell how much air you need in the tires. All the old timers taught me this and it works great.. it’s really a simple process and I have been doing this for over 50 years never had a problem with tires and wear patterns

Super confused how 275/70/18 Falkens on my truck are super close to rubbing but these fit on yours … are there alignment adjustments that can be made?IMG_5617.jpg

Trailhunter - already lifted - so in theory I should be able to fit the biggest tire but there are likely small alignment differences that allow some people to put on bigger tires

you have a different upper control arm, shock, wheel and track width. And yes the wheel can be pulled forward in the well resulting in increased caster. It's better than having the opposite problem and moving reward resulting in negative caster. The factory lift doesn't give the truck any additional capacity to handle a larger tire. The limiting factor is the wheel well and how much tire it can take when the suspension is fully compressed.

Got it. It must be small differences in caster then. When I get home I’ll measure exactly how far my tire is from touching. My tire is 33.43” so to get to 34” I’ll need to make sure I have a bare minimum of 0.5” at full lock (as the tire will get about 0.3” wider on each side) and even that’s cutting it really close. I may have to increase caster positivity.

Still no rub? I may bump up to your size. And I like that you’re at C load not E. Ride is probably softer. I still have time to swap them.

happy thanksgiving everyone! Thank you for your patience with my repeated tire questions.

I bet the caster on these trucks varies and is causing such a wide variation on what people can fit on their trucks. Most folks can fit 275/70/18 like I did. Some can fit true 34s like the nittos and falkens on this thread. And yet some can even go with 295s with no rub. Crazy. I still have some time to decide if I want to go up a size. But the 275s do look decent. They just ride kinda bumpy as E range tires.

I deflated my tires a bit after reading some stuff on here. Brought it down to 32psi cold. It was previously at 35 (I just automatically assumed Discount Tire would inflate for best tire wear) I got some rubbing at full lock. And I have lost about 2mpg with these tires. I do kinda regret not getting the 275/70. Not so much because of the rubbing or the mpg loss, but 285 is a really wide tire on these OEM wheels and I don’t really like the look. After leveling, I’ll definitely be getting new wheels with a negative offset to bring them out a bit.

Gotcha. I do think 275/70/80 work well on the truck. I was just having a moment of FOMO—I probably won’t change it for now. But I have to disagree with you on looks — because your tires look amazing.

I still think they are rough riding tires, which is my only beef with the Falkens. Maybe 32 PSI is about the right spot. You’ve got C loads but your sidewalls are 3-ply (mine only 2)—not sure how the ride quality compares between our setups.

why a negative offset? That’ll make them look even wider (unless you mean you don’t like the wide tire on the narrower rim). It’s just me but I like your setup / I would not change it.

I can’t recall exactly but didn’t snickers have 35’s on his TH with no mods? Must have cut or adjusted some fender linings to mitigate rubbing?

Not over thinking at all. Once you swap away from OEM specified load tires the placard means jack all. Every tire is designed and specified to support a certain weight rating at a certain pressure. An E rated tire typically requires a different pressure than a C rated tire for the same factory load rating. End of the world, no, but to do it right requires more than just hitting whatever number the door placard says.
