    Thanks. Not getting back up there until Thanksgiving week. Not a lot of deer per square mile, but they're big. It's been about 20 yrs since I seriously deer hunted. I had bird dogs for many years and that was my thing. I shot a big boy back in 2002 in this same area. Dressed out at 240. 8 pointer. Not fun dragging out alone. Still hunting is my preferred method.

    @CrippledOldMan

    This is a 30-06. I've only used the factory 4rd magazine with it. Never had a jamb, but I don't shoot it other than hunting. This one is the 740 Woodsmaster. My grandfather bought it in the 50's and gave it to me as a HS graduation gift back in 1988. Between he and I, I wouldn't guess how many deer and moose this has taken. I've never touched the iron sights and it's always been accurate for clean kills out to @200yds (my longest moose shot and a very long shot here in heavily forested Maine). Most deer are shot @30 yds here. I believe this was Remingtons first auto. The receiver metal is soft (in metal speak) and the grooved rotating bolt can wear out the corresponding spiral grooves milled into the receiver after high round counts thus causing malfunctions. I learned of this when I had a gunsmith do a full disassembly/deep clean back in the early 90's. He said it's fine to sight in with a few rounds each season and of course for hunting, and then suggested not to shoot more than a box per season. This one showed no signs of wear. Not a gun you want to take to the range and shoot box after box. My favorite firearm in my collection for obvious reasons.
