Boss man ask me a couple weeks ago how I felt about thread milling on the mill. I said I’ve never done it but get me a tool and I’ll try it. 3/4-10 thread, hot rolled material. Worked good.

Customer ask if I could make this 3/8” npt instead of 1/2” npt. I said only one way to find out. He’s putting it in his Corvette.

He has modern/aftermarket heads on an older car.
The temp gauge is calibrated for the older style sender with 1/2" threads.

RKO is amazeballs. It was started by the guy that owned Farm & Fleet and then was bought out of his portion of the company during a hostile takeover. We have several up here in OH and I'll never go to another TSC.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of them before. But there's apparently a few within 75 miles of me. Looking at the Google photos, it looks the same as blains farm and fleet, which is only 30 miles away. That's like farm and fleet or tractor supply but larger and better quality name brands, but also plenty of house brand stuff too.

Ok, trying to wrap my head around it.

How does this work? Is the tool smaller than the hole, and just cutting 1/8 of the threads at a time and you're just running it in a circle while also forcing it down at a predetermined speed to create the threads?

I was stunned by the quantity & quality of the stock, thought about taking pictures but they never really convey the real feeling -- and I didn't want to look like a dork taking pictures inside a farm store. :jpow:

There wasn't just one of anything either, the Milwaukee & DeWalt aisles were floor to ceiling with extra stock way up. Multiple welders, top grade all cast iron Quincy compressors, I could go on...

If I wasn't pressed for time it would have taken much longer.

The prices seemed quite reasonable too, I bought a gallon of windshield wash for $1.99 -- The Mart has it for $3.94.
That stuff used to be $.79/gallon.

There’s a cycle for it on the mill computer, you tell it major diameter, minor diameter, pitch, rpm, feed, and tool size. It figures out the hard stuff and feeds in a circle while going down. I did drill the hole the tap drill size. I did this in 7 passes with a .008” finish cut.
