Hahaha... Oh man.. Thanks for posting this. It can be funny now to look back at all the drama, but I feel ya when you talk about going round and round with all those issues. I too seem to be able to find a way make the simple complex. Sometimes those "helpful" youtube videos don't help. You start out referencing the video and do exactly what they are describing, only to get to a part where they are like, "yeah.. don't do it that way man." WHAT!?!? Hahaha.. It looks good man. Well done and good troubleshooting.

I'm getting my vehicle inspected right now. They were going to fail me for "not having an exhaust"...

I have skid plates. (C4) The exhaust pipe is hidden behind the skid plates and dumps behind the rear axle. Had to point it out to them.

I'm glad my vehicle is going to be deemed "safe" for the next year by these guys. I'm terrified that other vehicles are also deemed "safe" by these guys though.

I had an argument with someone at work about the stupidity of safety inspections just the other day. From the data I found, barely 3-4% of vehicle accidents are attributable to faulty equipment. 90+% are user induced and 4% are weather related. The point of safety inspections is lost on me- the time and effort put into it is absolutely wasted.
Of course their argument was 'but why wouldn't you want safer vehicles on the road?'
Shook my head and had to walk away..

    /end rant

    Yeah.
Here in Arkansas, they just figure if it runs and you are brave enough to drive it, it's probably fine.

When I run into those people I try to not engage them but if I do I point to states like Florida that have no vehicle inspection and ask them if there's massive numbers of cars crashing down there due to it?

I think it’s one of those things that was introduced a long time ago when everything was truly a mechanical system and honestly many times not designed all that well. But I have also seen some rides around here that look like a death trap.

Same goes for dumb laws like window tint. In MN you can black out windows behind the front seats of trucks, SUV, vans, etc. or in some cases not even have windows behind the front seats, but heaven forbid you put anything darker than 50% on windows behind the front seats on a sedan. :notsure:

What the hell is going on in Michigan that you need 0% light transmission through your tint?

You probably want to be judicious with the use of masking tape.

The data you found likely tells you the accident rate with whatever given safety system is already in place—the one you’re displeased with. But those numbers aren’t what the accident rate would be like without the system, no?

It’s not just immediate safety, those safety checks are also to maintain things like air quality, which is certainly an issue in places like Salt Lake City

I prefer less window tint because I have a chance of being able to see if the driver of that vehicle sees me or is paying any attention at all !

While NH says "none" on that map, almost every car has some ... you just can't add any.

Good/extra visors would be appreciated here.

The eternal frustration of safety programs the world over: prove your impact. Did accidents occur less frequently because of the safety program, or would they have been less likely to occur anyway due to other reasons? Without concurrent control and test groups for every safety mechanism, it’s pretty hard to answer this. It doesn’t mean safety programs don’t work, it just means that “proving” that they work is often difficult if those you’re trying to convince insist on quantifiable data.

Put new shoes on the Taco, Milestar Patagonia A/T Pro. Made in the United States in Tennessee by Nokian. So far, extremely quiet, smooth ride, great off road.

    Thanks for that photo!

We were talking about the center tube that mates up to the passage and the depth.

The filter hits the top of the chamber before center tube does.

I knew Nokian had a Tennessee plant, didn’t know they had another brand. Looking forward to hearing more after they have a few miles (or “hearing less” about road noise).
