SLC (all of utah?) recently got rid of safety inspections. Some counties still have emissions checks and the conversation was specifically about the safety check side.

Regarding the data- it was an NHSTA study for the entire US- which would average out states with and without safety inspections. I could not find individual states data.

Even if we eliminated all accidents caused by faulty equipment- its a small number compared to those caused by human factors (distracted, bad decision, fatigue etc)

Also the impact of these inspections (safety and emissions) are incredibly skewed to have a much heavier impact on the lower socio-economic class who are already struggling to survive. To the rich its an inconvenience- for the poor who are struggling to make rent/ food for the family, not having a running vehicle snowballs rapidly into a catastrophe. (no car= no job=no rent= homeless/ destitute)

I'll stop with derailing this thread now :crapstorm:

How much did this set you back? Been looking at this before MN winter hits.

Good point about it having a bigger impact on less fortunate. On the flip side, here in Michigan, we have cars that desperately need inspecting. Plenty have mufflers flying off going down the highway (mainly during winter), headlights out, etc. Emissions is a whole issue of its own. Weekly, I get behind vehicles that gas me out. There’s gotta be a middle ground.

If you are able to lay on your back and have a few hours of free time you can do it yourself.

I use Wool Wax, I bought this kit along with 4 Rhino Ramps and just respray my truck in my driveway, a little pancake compressor is all you need for air supply.
Just put down a drop cloth, wear glasses and clothes you don't care about, and spray away.

The initial coat takes the longest because you will want to pull the body plugs to spray in the rockers and inside any cavity you can find, then once a year you should only need to touch up the surface areas where it gets washed away.
My initial spray was 4 years ago and inside my tailgate and door panels still have a good coating, I just respray the frame and suspension parts every year.

Those are probably good enough to tow your truck behind your RV. Only one way to find out!

Over the summer it popped out on the highway and SMACKED the cab so hard and scared the shit out of me. I had cleaned it all up and secured the rear end with 3m tape but the middle was still popping up and refused to stay in place.
