Hello everyone. In 2010 I purchased a new Tacoma TRD access cab. I live in upstate NY and the truck is always garaged. The truck has under 40,000 miles and looks like new! The undercarriage is another story. Everything is rusty and some of the rust is coming off in chunks! I responded to all recalls but none were for the rusty frame and there are currently no open recalls for my vehicle. There were recalls issued for 2009 and earlier but not for 2010. Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas or suggestions?

There was a 12 yr from date of going in service program where Toyota would replace frames that failed certain inspections

This was not a recall, but extended warranty.

You are a couple years past the time limit so don't expect anything from Toyota.

    Couple of thoughts.

Always garaged? Maybe. But it was driven in salt. They don't rust up sitting in a garage

We don't know how bad it is. Not even a picture to help. But it sounds unsafe to drive until someone examines it for a determination. And to see if repair is possible.

Whoever has done your service work over the years has really failed in their job by not giving you a heads up early on and laying out a preventative action plan

Hope it works out for you!

Parking in a garage seems to make things worse. At least from my experiences.

...I don't think that it is the garage, rather a heated garage, or to some extent, an attached garage, where the temp is more likely to more often reach temps where the salt and 'salt water' continue to 'activate' and I believe those temps are near and above freezing....

It is a 14 or 15 year old truck. Be glad you made it this long without having treated the frame. If the frame isn’t toast now do the fluid film or WoolWax treatment, but if you’ve got holes it’s time to look for a new truck.
