So, I didn't know we had Nerf tournaments at the park near my house

 

I landed a better job earlier this year. It's complicated, the work is good, my teammates are awesome. we have a new manager who likes to micromanage and ask for forgiveness not permission type of stuff.

for example, our core services team was not positioned to setup a new database implementation (entirely new stack) before Q1/Q2. so she got it in her head that me and my counterpart could do it to force their hand on it and gave the two of us 3 days to write s proposal. I haven't been a full stack dev for 5? years and he's only ever been a mobile dev...then she proceeded to argue with me for wanting more than one database table in my proposal lol

BUUT overall things are much better compared to the old gig, though her increasing grasp is a red flag pushing me to consider the search again

yeah, you've nailed it. instead of being prepared and having the team in good order before the shit happens they wait until the big project lands and try to hire at the worst possible time

 

Aye, yeah, delegation and trust are issues at my place too, and it's also the thing that keeps my eye on the door.

I see many engineering managers/leaders wanting to engineer solutions to technical problems when they actually need to engineer an organization such that the people in it can solve those technical problems.
