I thought I had seen someone with Cryo Treated. I ran the regular, and they were fine. I did pick up a set of DBA 4000 T3 rotors that I would recommend if you can find them.

I’ve been trying to get a setup for my X, but decided to just go with the XAT Racing kit.

Has anyone ran into any issues installing this setup with 3rd Gen offroads? Any issues with brake booster or master cylinder? My truck needs new rotors and pads. Figure why not do a budget brake upgrade. Also what’s the best pricing people have found?

No issue on 3rd gens. Depends on how you go about it. OEM, aftermarket or reman and what rotors. launched a new site last year been thinking of a budget package for this setup.

Was thinking reman or aftermarket for calipers and just OEM or decent quality aftermarket rotors.

you should put a kit together

although, these OEM’s seem to be decently priced for calipers

Yeah that's not too bad. With no Core charge, remans look to be about 150-160 a pair. We may also be able to do powerstop calipers, so it's already shiny red for the folks that want red. Rotors are you to you but getting a decent set of Stoptech slotted or whatever your poison is has been the popular choice. DM if interested and I can try to put something together.

Just received my OEM 4Runner rotors yesterday. Calipers arrive today and dust shields Monday. Looking forward to the install.

Brakes are still new, just got the truck back on the ground. Blew a LBJ in Death Valley 2 weeks ago so had a few repairs. Went and got an alignment today and the brakes feel great! Definitely feel a difference and doesn’t have to be forced to stop the big girl.

I’ve been thinking of going this route as well. Did you end up going with this kit?

I put these parts on my 5th gen 4Runner in October, for reference:

    Calipers: Powerstop S6278
    Rotors: Raybestos 980784PER
Pads: Advics AD0976 (same as Tacoma OEM ceramic)
Caliper bolts: Carlson H821 (if your factory bolts are rusty)

The Powerstop reman calipers came in with displaced dust boots on half of the pistons. Easy enough to fix with a pocket screwdriver though:

This write up is fantastic, I started this project today, was able to get one side done this evening, and will do the other tomorrow morning.

My original caliper pins were seized in the caliper so I could not get the pads out, just took it off as an assembly. This is a very nice upgrade for something that I needed either way.

I was able to get almost everything from RockAuto too, they always come through. The new dust shields were from eBay and fit great.

I did this upgrade and while it was a significant improvement, I now have a rattle/vibration which I believe is due to the dust shields vibrating against the back of the rotor. Happens at low speeds mainly. I did upgrade to the larger dust shields as opposed to cutting old. I may try to bend the dust shield slightly, but just a warning to others.

Curious if anyone else has experienced this? (didn't find much by searching)

You'll probably have to play with it a little to eliminate the rattle. I have to mess with mine almost everytime they come off, but i also hammered the shit out of mine to mold them around spindle gussets. Bend it a little, whack it to see if it still rattles. Repeat till satisfied.

From what I have read, there are multiple year option swaps available on the calipers. Is it better to stay with the calipers that have the same size piston as the Tacoma to keep pedal feel the same? I’m about 800# over stock and will be doing brakes for the second time now and am definitely needing an upgrade over the stock Tacoma brakes. Thanks
