Airbag / sealbelt light stuck on, code B1650, after bouncing around in the passenger seat

Anyone know what might be the issue here? Or how to get this diagnosed / fixed?

Friend bouncing / kicking around in passenger seat, seatbelt and airbag light came on and stay on.

Tried disconnecting battery for a few hours, re-seating / disconnecting wires near sensor underneath passenger seat (yellow, gray, black), clearing codes, none of it works and the two lights stay on (airbag and flashing seatbelt light).

Any tips? All I can find is dis-consensus online around (re-calibrate, replace sensor, etc). I don't want to dump 1k into this. Really want a good set of steps to diag this properly.

Need to see what codes are in the Occupant Classification ECU but my hunch would be either the zero point for the weight sensors got screwed up or one of the sensors was damaged.

I think the ”bouncing / kicking” friend would be the one fixing this problem.

Any links / guides on how to check those codes?

Has to be checked with a scan tool that can access all systems.

by chance, is there any video of said friend having this episode/tantrum? I’m curious of what kind of behavior actually caused the sensor to fail,,, IF it is the sensor.

    Seat is out of calibration.
    Needs to be recalibrated.
Keep offender in the back seat.
    Saw this all the time.
Large people would set this off too…

Make sure nothing is under the seat also

Why? I suspect it was a female friend bouncing around and OP was IN on the bounce.
Weight of two people probably broke the sensor(s).

I agree and I thought this from the beginning but OP didn’t disclose so I assumed he had a friend that had a break down.

And they always disappear, leaving us frustrated. No resolution, no story climax.

Same thing here with the SRS light. Cause was an oversized passenger. Tried the battery disconnect, reseating the connectors. Borrowed a scanner (Innova 3100rs). Code B1650 would reset then immediately trip.
Calibration makes sense. Imagine the empty seat sensor not returning to zero once the passenger gets out or is pushed past full scale. I guess this is a shop task.

Unfortunately OP never reported back to his findings. I think you are right about recalibration if that doesn’t work then sensor replacement.

Moral of the story is to turn off your truck, if you get a lap dance in a Taco.

minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.

Offenders like this one better to keep off-board, or transport in the box, packed in restraining shirt and tied-up to platform.
Re-calibration of the system required, anyways.
