The climbing facility there is top notch. I really enjoyed it during my time there.

You can join the Element cult! Then we'll say we knew him back before he "CHANGED."

I’ll probably end up wanting a legit 4x4 at some point just to get to remote trailheads.

You haven't yet gonna looking for them I see  generally you don't need a true 4x4 for almost all the access in your area. Idaho in general is more dirt roads than trails. Just keep that in mind.

That is so true even in tons of different parts of CA

You see it on this very forum, people asking what mods/upgrades they need for many service roads and trails here

It's the weather that'll make the biggest difference

Maybe an Element or Subaru would be good enough then. And yea like a lot of long rough dirt roads to get to some of the more remote areas from what I’m reading in my guidebook. It sounds like you’d definitely want a 4x4 in the Owyhew Canyolands, but that’s like an 8 hour drive from me.

I’ve found a truck can be useful for shore tending backpacking trips by getting to the more remote trailheads, like Hunchback Pass in Colorado. Usually what guide books describe as a “rough road” is still passable in a normal car with some care. Look at Central America - most people drive old Corollas and Sentras down there and take them almost everywhere.

Look back at your own posts.

You constantly measured capability on paper, for a long time, through tons of discussions.

Finally you exercised it in real life, and you were mind-blown.

Don't start doing this again like you did.

In CA there are tons and I mean tons of trails that basically any beginner could do (in a car even), yet members on TW are asking about mods needed for those same trails, or prematurely going into 4x4 for no reason. I know cause I see the posts in the regional section, or have met them in person

The Owhyees are brutal when it is wet. But a lot of that area is, again relatively all dirt roads. Sure there are some gnarly trails but I doubt you'll find yourself in them. There's plenty of great dirt roads to get places. I don't see you really being the type to go tackle hard trails for the hell of it.

I had the notion of driving down to Garats crossing and doing some sort of pack rafting/backpacking trip down the east fork of the Owyhee.
