I installed mine today. Dongar Pro but I hid the module as the few times I would change the mode I will pop off the cover. I wanted a cleaner look. Viofo A229 Pro 2 channel. First dashcam so we will see how it goes. they had really good reviews. I hope I never need it but good insurance.

 

Anyone else try this yet? Curious how it'll impact the lifetime of the battery. Not sure if I need the option of running dash cam while vehicle is off, but would like to hear others thoughts

 

Just buy the regular one then. If you don't want the function they get the cheaper one. He built in a cut off so it will do nothing to your battery. It is explained multiple times.

 

I have the regular one, just curious about others experience with this cuz it’s new and there’s not many reviews

According to some comments on that vid, it looks like parking/timer mode won't work unless you have the homelink option, which I think only comes on tech/prem. Good to know

 

@fiftysix the guy in the video doesn't have a homelink mirror either but it seems to work so I contacted support and that advice seems to apply to 4Runner. YMMV

 

I got the Pro adapter in recently and tested the timed mode for about an hour today. Got about an hour footage of parking lot activity so it works as advertised.

 

Which camera are you using?

 

I'm using a Viofo A229 Pro. I didn't use the parking mode on this first test because I didn't know how to turn it on (this is my first dash cam). So I think the footage was recorded as normal as if I left the engine running. I could've saved some memory space by using one of the parking modes.

When you figure out the parking mode post back how it works. I have the a329 and the dongar, just need the truck to arrive.
