If you have the correct gap tool, and you know/understand how to use it, then set the gap to the correct gap spec, but you do not do it the old school way, do not put any pressure on the tips...

After thinking about it, go with below advise...

Only being 0.005" off, run them as is and don't loose any sleep over it...
It is probably the correct gap anyway, by not being able to put any resistance/drag on the tips will make it seem tighter then they actually are...

Update: I just put in the new plugs. Engine is still misfiring. I don’t know what could be the issue. If my old plugs and new plugs were the same gap size then I don’t know if it’s a bad coil. I’m gonna go pick up a scanner tool to see which cylinder is misfiring.

Something you can do while waiting on the scanner. With the plugs in place, engine at idle, take one coil off the plug at a time, listen and feel the engine.

If you feel the difference, then it's a live hole. If no difference, then it's a dead hole.

If you find a dead hole, switch coils to a different one to see if it comes alive.

This is what I got from Autozone. It’s time like this where I regret doing things myself.

I tried to diagnose which cylinder is misfiring by disconnecting them one at a time.

What is that last Code on the bottom of your list? Low or high Supply voltage.....

You need a scanner with a live data to see which cylinders misfire while idling
Check coil connectors. Make sure the coils set all the way and tight down.
ECU does not see a signal on the white wire

    upload_2024-11-17_10-55-54.png

Hopefully you did not ef'ed up ECU circuits with those experimental plugs, just coils.

Perhaps order one OEM coil to see if it fixes the issue

Coil pack #3 is at fault, but the lean also means there could be a vacuum leak.

Did you remove the intake plenum to do the job or cheat it?

I because there are new plugs all thats left is workmanship. Coils don't fail simply because they were removed and re-installed.

So a damaged wire is a possibility as well.

I am a Toyota tech and I don't cheat these plugs anymore, I remove the intake and make life easy.

I did not remove the whole intake. Just the engine air filter from it. I replaced #3 coil and it’s still misfires. I’ll be taking it to a shop tomorrow. It might just be that I damaged a wire without knowing. The new plugs I bought were the same ones I had on originally.

Crossed ignition wires? I’ve seen that done before on a ‘85.

I have seen many threads on how hard a couple of the plugs are to get at.
This is the first i have herd of removing the intake.
Now i know i will not be doing mine myself...

If Chloe can do it ... you can. Get a 24 in extension for the socket and get a magnetic (not friction) spark plug socket-head to be sure the plug does not disappear into the engine compartment. https://youtu.be/u3ByWKm8aP0 . Skip the 2 commercials ...

Haha yeah I actually watched her video on it and another one. I’m in one of those situation where a simple one hour job turns into a whole weekend job.

Update: good news! I took it to the dealership earlier, and it turns out that the plugs or coils weren’t the problem, but I had a bad pcv valve hose. Car runs great and smoother with the new plugs now.
