Oil change done. Waiting for the air filter to dry out. Than taking it out for a little rip through the woods in my brother back yard.

How many of you change the coolant and brake fluid every 2 or 3 years like listed in most maintenance schedules?

Changed the brake fluid last weekend on my mt09 and going to do the coolant tomorrow after 4 years of owning it.

I preemptively did my coolant at 8k instead of 12k like my manual told me to. I will probably do it again at 20k. It was only $40 or so.

Brake fluid, I also try to stick to the manual

Ya, I meant to do it last winter but never got around to it. It is weird that most bikes recommend such soon coolant changes but most cars don't.

I think its because bikes are higher performance than cars

Much smaller volume, higher rev range, often stored for months.

I would think that it would not matter as much since car are around the same operating temp and it breaks down from reacting with oxygen and becoming acidic too. I guess the larger volume probably help though. Need a coolant expert to call me an idiot.

How's the Bolt been treating you? I ran across a SCR950 with 3K miles for 3K. After looking into them, I found out they're a Bolt with a different subframe and a few other bits. I'm really wanting a scrambler type bike.

    Found a 2019 Triumph for 4.5K with 9K miles

Also found this W800 Cafe. I went to look at this exact bike almost a year ago. They were way over priced. It's down to $5900, but I wouldn't give but 5K OTD. I may drive over and see what they're willing to do since they've had it for so long.

make sure the wrenches fit. I had to grind my tusk spoon wrenches at a bevel on one side as the outer diameter of the hex is very large. Not an issue just a little bit of time with a flap disk but would suck to go to use them even though they are the right size and see that they dont fit the space.

Good advice. One of the first things I do when I get a new to me bike is pull the factory tool kit and verify the tools in it actually fit the fasteners they would be used on. Often the simple Allen wrenches they give you are a tad short in length and you'll be hard pressed to get sufficient leverage when needed.

Woke up super early (4am) for whatever reason on this Sunday, got tons of stuff done before 9am needed some parts at the hobby store that is 15min away but opens at 10.... Guess take the long way on the moto, ended up on a 80mi loop down the coast on a mild crisp VERY clear morning. The islands looked like they were right there (usually you can't see em)

just a couple of things tbh
The bolt has been treating me great tbh! It's an awesome bike that I can just ride flat out or cruise on and always have fun with! Very reliable platform as well! Only thing is if you are use to well a nicer bike with a 6th gear this bike will have a good amount of vibes to it. For me since I came from a drz I honestly don't notice them... I'm actually wanting one of those bike to add to the stable just because I like the look of them lol.

It's funny people might complain about not having a 6th gear but as long as the ratio percentage spread between 1st and top gear is sufficient then it really doesn't matter.... Everyone always tries to shift N+1... At least I do haha

EDIT - That stated I do wish my tenere had a taller 6th or an additional 7th gear, or different fueling. Cruising at 70 you churn 4k rpms. 4.2k (73mph) rpms goes into open loop fueling and mpgs drop significantly... The bike wants to cruise at 80-85

Got to catch up on a bit of basic maintenance on the 701 this afternoon. Felt good to just wrench for a few hours. Installed the heated grips, changed the oil, and changed the coolant. Still need to do chain/sprockets/countershaft seal, brake fluid, and give the air filter a solid cleaning. Hopefully next weekend.

Oil changes are easy on this, only 1.7l of oil, but man, 2 filters and 2 strainers. I'm used to 1 filter and no screens, I was spoiled hah.

Oh, and I don't think I told y'all the verdict on the graphics. I ordered the topographic one in matte finish. I think it'll look sharp. Might swap a few panels to black, but we'll see when it gets here, I'm in no rush on that.

I feel that. My lil XT225 I never thought I would like as much as I do for around town duties. Unfortunately haven't been able to ride it cus it's in full dirt mode for my buddy to learn how to dirtbike and I don't wanna ruin the knobbies.
