Dry ice blasting is a great service for vehicle maintenance, especially when it comes to underbody cleaning and rust prevention. A lot of people don’t realize how effective it is for removing dirt, grease, and rust without damaging the surface, which is why it’s becoming more popular in restoration and detailing. The fact that it’s non-abrasive and leaves no residue makes it ideal for prepping the underbody before applying a rust barrier.

As for Toyota trucks, especially for those used in harsh climates or off-roading, dry ice blasting followed by a rust barrier coating could be a solid preventive measure. Many Toyota owners, particularly in areas with road salt or high humidity, would definitely consider it to extend the life of their vehicle.

It’s something I’d personally look into, and I think others who want to keep their trucks in top condition would too. Great service to offer!

I would definitely be interested. The results are incredible and keeping the frame clean is so important.

I’ve been using Amsoils heavy duty metal protectant on my truck since purchase and it works phenomenally well as a protectant, but my frame / underside could use a good clean & reapplication of the protectant after a few years of use.

Absolutely, my 2nd gen has some frame rot im going to need to address soon, these frames need that type of protection or they will end up failing!

Not OP's shop (FL), there's a Dry Ice Blasting place 15 minutes from me, I may consider this with a fresh undercoat.
It's looking to be the aforementioned $250/hr, so it might be on the back-burner for a bit.

We've been dabbling in dry ice blasting, laser ablation, and even sponge blasting for our weapon systems in the US for at least 10-15 years off the top of my head. There are pro/cons to them all of course. There are some really good national/international companies that have a good foothold on the business OP. Technology is moving fast forward quickly. My personal opinion is that the cost to service is what will hold a typical homeowner/truck owner back. These applications are more developed for industry such as any large scale overhaul plants. Just my opinion.

For sure, we have been working mostly in the industrial and commercial space. What i have found is that most people are interested in the aftercare and protecting the frames of their vehicles not necessarily the dry ice blasting itself. So the sell is on the time saved in prep for the undercoating especially if you have a 18 year old truck like i do that has years of buildup on it.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
First saw this years ago being done to a Rolls in Florida. Instantly recognized it as awesome. Good luck OP.

Would dry ice blasting work on hard water deposits (calcium carbonate) on pool tile? Guy wants over $1500 to do it using a glass bead blaster- it sounds like it would be a good business if it worked as you don’t have to recover the beads out of the pool afterwards and you could do it with the pool filled with water (at least to the bottom of the tiles).

It works very well for pools, and there is no secondary waste to clean out of your pool afterwards, it is my opinion that dry ice blasting is the best method for pool cleaning.

Check out Salt Shift chassis cleaner. Based in Australia, i think they use it for marine and 4x4. I don't have experience with it, but see ads often and it always catches my eye

It works very well. But lots of $$$$. A lot of people that restore cars are doing it.
