Good news! The light controller on the underside of the body lets you unplug things individually.

I unplugged the turn signals (CL-L1 and CL-R2) and moved the tail light plug from Back 6 to DRL 3 and now no more turn signals and the tail lights stay on!

    Oh hell yeah!

The only thing that bugged me about that rig are the turn signals, good to hear you can disable them.

@Strictlytoyz that's a sick rig you linked  I couldn't even be my own Santa and buy that for myself :bananadead:

Been eyeing rc crawler builds for a few years and just never pulled the trigger on anything lol. Everytime I'm about to buy a builders kit something in the back of my head goes, nah bro you don't need it. Then the interest fades until something (or someone) reminds me :help:

I'll give you my thought process on why I listed an SCX24 -

    BUDGET FRIENDLY!

They are about as affordable as you can get for a ready-to-run setup with capability. Head to head, it does worse than the FCX24, Ascent 18, as well as the TRX4M.

The FCX24 and Ascent 18 just give you more capability right off the bat without upgrades. The TRX4M does as well but that's because it's just a bigger truck; but it's Traxxas so :bananadead:

But knowing us, you know we're going to replace shit anyway to make it better. It seems that the SCX24 has either of these beat in terms of aftermarket support (even for DIY'ers with 3D printers). Plus, who doesn't love a licensed body? I've had the GX470 body in my sights but it's a good $50 more than the Basecamp which looks a lot like a Tacoma - I'll grab the BC + mod money over the GX any day of the week cause even that thing looks better than the Ascent.

The FCX24 does have some cool bodies too, but I read/hear more about stuff breaking on them versus the SCX24.

Although if I don't get anything for X-mas that's crawler-related, I may opt to buy a Vanquish myself after doing a full custom SCX24.

When I say full custom I mean I'll be building right off an aftermarket chassis and will forgo buying an Axial product altogether. Buying a custom chassis will just mean I'll have a ton of options to choose from since it'll be based off a popular platform.

Yeah, best performing truck out there IMO box stock and the body is quickly fixed with a less ugly one.

Very good points, and its no doubt we're gonna tinker with whatever we get. I may end up starting with an SCX24 and mess with that for awhile to get my fix. I know at some point I want to build a 1/10 from the ground up. We'll see if Santa thinks I've been a good boy this year :cheers:

Small scale (scx24) was a waste for me minus being able to let my then 3 year old son play with it. That said I didn’t know I was going to be as into it as I am so I guess it was a good starting point. Now nothing smaller than 1/10 is even considered.

If I were to get small scale again I would go fms18 or trx4m though. The scx24 is just too small IMO.

A ton have been on Pre Black Friday sales already.

Just depends on what you're looking at, but many sites have them listed on their front page.

Set on picking up an ascent 18 to get me started down the rabbit hole. Looking foward to seeing what it can do out the box and what future upgrades I'll be doing.

I've only done heavy wheels and Injora HXH Pin tires (I use it exclusively indoors) and it's incredible

We'll see how long I run it as is lol. Already researching some mods/upgrades. From what I've been reading it seems folks reccomend changing out to aluminum links, and a different steering servo as those are likely the first to break on these ascent 18's. Have you had such failures with yours?

The stock steering servo is actually pretty dang good for being a stock one. As long as you don’t make the truck too heavy it’ll be fine. I put every heavy metal part I could find onto my truck so I ended up upgrading the servo as well.

Amain usually does ~20% off on BF/CM so I’ll buy some more electronics and paint then. Injoras sale is starting soon as well.

This is where I am on the fence. Keep looking at a small scale crawler because of the price and not convinced I'd stick with it. Figured if I like it I can upgrade and if I don't, I'm not out that much money. I have a park across the street with a skate park so I can run all my other trucks pretty much out of the garage. With a crawler I'm driving somewhere to use it.
