No. There’s a bunch of clips and maybe 1-2 screws on the backside of the tire/fender. Should consider getting replacement clips as they are stupid fragile. Amazon has a bag of like 40 for a few bucks, should be plenty. They are the orange/blue ones.

I read a couple instances where the dealer checked the durability/thickness of the paint with either tape or a pressure wash to see if any additional areas of the truck needed new paint in addition to areas it had already peeled. Would it be reasonable to request a dealer take similar steps so that all areas of subpar paint area be addressed at the same time? I'm in the small minority that I had the dealer repaint one door when it started to peel at 40k but now at 55k the door on the other side is peeling and I have to bring it back.

I only had peeling on one door and some on the front fenders by the hood but apparently they're painting all 4 doors, both fenders, and the hood.

I would be happy with the same treatment. I asked the service advisor about it and he was clueless. May consider going to a different dealer to see what their process entails.

In my case the service advisor wasn't involved at all. I went to their collision department and am dealing with a chick from there.

Interesting. Did they say from the onset that they would be repainting all those areas? My SA said they need to check the affected areas and document the peeling implying that they would only address areas where the peeling was present. I mentioned hearing about some type of test to the check the thickness/durability of the paint and he said he had no idea and it was up to the body shop they contract with.

I had an appointment with the collision lady, she took some pictures, I got a call a couple weeks later for me to come in and drop off the truck. That's when she told me what they were repainting.

I only had peeling on one door, so I kind of got the feeling this is going to be standard. I don't know though... My truck should be ready in the next couple days, I'll make sure to ask them while I'm there.

Toyota did nothing until their hand was forced. Now it sounds like they are only doing the minimum repair necessary today. Forget tomorrow. Once this program is over we’ll probably be on our own. What does the dealer care? Maybe try to make a satisfied customer? I guess those days are in the rearview mirror.

The whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

What forced their hand? Honest question, I haven't followed this since the beginning. Threat of class action?

Well, my local dealer needed some help. Even though corporate told me I could ask for only my doors to be painted so I wouldn’t have to take my racks and camper shell off, my local collision shop said they need to blend the paint into the body in order to meet the “Toyota warranty”. I told them they’re probably just doing it to make more money off the job because corporate doesn’t require it. They didn’t like that.

-update: called the general manager and now the collision center is reconsidering the repair to just the doors.

I just dropped my truck off yesterday the 11th. Noticed the underside of the hood was flaking so might be getting my hood repainted also (they have to call Toyota) also they are doing my pillars front to back. So the only thing they're not painting is the roof and the bed. They said they'll have my truck for 2 weeks.

My contact at the collision center called back, and I took the truck in for a couple hours for a Toyota Corporate rep to inspect end of last week. They confirmed the paint issues we documented qualify for the repaint under warranty and are processing it now.

Wasn't confirmed yet if corporate will also be covering the peeling paint panels not described in the send out letter. Rep at the collision center said they've seen around 35 Tacomas so far for the paint issue but only 4 including mine have shown peeling outside the door sills and front fenders, so corporate hasn't officially said anything about covering additional panels yet.

Thinking maybe I'll get my boss' truck in sooner vs later to get it documented and log another case of paint being affected outside the warranty letter-defined spots. It's also showing peeling on all four doors and both fenders, plus on the gas cap door hood and part of a rear fender, just less severe than on my truck.

Paint shop called me yesterday, my hood is also going to be painted also so that's awesome. I'll just have to buff my roof. The bed looks great but I'll buff that also then a ceramic coat.

I got my truck back last friday night at about 5:45pm. It was dark outside but the exterior looked good. The next morning I went outside to clean out the inside of the truck and this is what I found:

Both clips holding the headliner up in the rear were gone. The headliner was sagging a couple inches down. I found the clips on the floor rear passenger seat.

Clip hiding the wire from rear view mirror into the headliner was gone. Found that on the front passenger floor.

I found 5 clips of various sizes and a torx screw on the floor that I have no clue what they go to.

Then I found the damage to the tint.

    [IMG] [IMG]

All 4 doors the tint was fucked up. Back window same story.

Monday I went back to the collision center to see what the fuck happened. Never got an explanation. They offered to have the windows re-tinted, which I did today. I'd be afraid to bring it back in for them to figure out where the clips went.

"Lithia Body & Paint" is the name of the company, attached to Bell Road Toyota in Phoenix.

I just hope the fucking paint holds up.

Edit: why isn't there a way to thumbnail images on this forum? Sorry for the large image sizes.

Oh hell. Mine is at an actual Toyota body shop. So I really hope mine doesn't come back like that.

I thought the one I was going to was. It's the "collision center" of an actual Toyota dealership. You wouldn't know if you didn't ask.

    Key word "certified" I guess....
