Good Morning Tom, Thank you Sir. He was a good guy who would help anyone he could. Sorry for your losses. I guess we are at the age where this unfortunately will happen more with losing loved ones and friends.

Even though I wasn't posting, I tried to keep up with the posts on the thread. You always have something going on and keep quite busy, but always enjoyed you culinary skill when it came to putting a meal together :).

Have a good day and be safe.

Sadly California laws bled over to Colorado. As if it will make it safer! Grrrrr!

Another lovely fall day here. 22* now, but getting to 55 and sunny! Woohoo! Great day to get outside!

Kettlebell day! Then, if not too tired…LOL!, I need to figure out where to move a couple of hawthorn sprouts to. Also some variety of oak that just sprouted in a flower bed. No clue where it came from, but likely a squirrel brought it from blocks away. Busy little tree rats!

    Make it a great day!

@johneman ride in was nice. Getting cooler but I saw a low of 41 or 42 on my way in which isn't bad. Should be mid 50's when I leave in the afternoon. Today marks 49 consecutive days of riding, second longest streak this year. Mid May through early August I managed 80 straight days. Rain is in the forecast later this week so have to see how that goes.

A little something every chance we get.
:rain: Good Morning Porch Plas & Sue! Rain we waited all night for is trying to get here. Only 0.05" overnight, and 0.02" so far. The front just finally arrived about 10 minutes ago, dropping us from 75* to 60*. This is the last of the rain band, and it's pretty scruffy. Trying to encourage it as best I can!

    Afternoon all:

Good to see some of the regulars back posting, always miss their posts when they take a hiatus from posting.

Can't read the article without subscribing Ken, but from the headline I would assume the guy put the rifle across the rack for a pic. and the dead deer came back to life and took off with it!

Here is part of the story (The paper wants you to subscribe....NOT)
Spend enough time in the Maine woods and you’re bound to see all kinds of weird stuff. Whether you’re sitting around the campfire or picking up your morning paper, those stories are lots of fun to hear or read.

Today’s odd Maine woods tale comes from reader Chris Greeley, who passed along a story from his dad.

“As an Army veteran who served during the ‘Korean conflict,’ he never hunted, nor would he have anything to do with guns, once back in Maine,” Greeley wrote. “However, he was out with a friend who WAS deer hunting (I guess just accompanying him for companionship), when they came across a nice buck. My dad’s friend, who was armed with a .30-30, took a shot and dropped the mature male deer, which was sporting a nice rack.

Can't copy the rest of the story because it blurs out but the end goes like this...He was impressed with the number of points on the rack and as he was thinking how it would look mounted on his wall he put his gun in the rack to envision what it would look like when the deer suddenly jumped up and took off rifle and all never to be seen again (same for the rifle).

There are many stories out there from hunters. Hope you get one Carl.

Got half of the story copied but I couldn't get the rest so I read what I could and added it to the rest. Poor guy not only lost a real nice buck and rack but probably his favorite hunting rifle

Finally got a decent (faster than a snail) internet connection. Was promised 30+ years ago, so about average wait time. Neighbor down the road has it, says his place went up in value about 10k. ALL home values are up, though, so... He's had two offers since. We're not looking to sell. We really don't need it, all that bad, but the home value would suffer otherwise, and it'll keep that current. I suppose real estate taxes, insurance, etc. will follow suite. They never miss an opportunity to ding you.

    Morning
    Sorry for friends being lost.
@Ret CB, glad you’re still on the mend still.
I’d be in a wheelchair and on a oxy drip if not for mine.
    No way to live..

    Been busy as hell.
    Finally ready for winter.
List is to long to type out lol
Lots of home improvements this year.
    Redid the master bedroom completely.
    New generator
    Security cameras
    Wiring additions

Did research for two years and installed a remote start in my Truck a few weeks ago.
    Works great.
Lots better than the ones I use to take out of vehicles all the time for many drivability and start issues.
Swore I’d never install one but, the quality has improved enough that I’m comfortable with my choice.

    No lure making this winter.
I have way too many. lol
Repairing a lot of bowling balls.
Have two snowblowers apart waiting for parts.
Glad they didn’t wait for the first storm.

    On a sadder note.
Bob and I have decided to retire from competition road course racing.
    It’s been 20 years of successful accomplishments….
    Time waits for no one.
Have great memories and feel so fortunate that he trusted me with his well being at 180mph.

He did trick me and got me behind the wheel of the Ferrari durning warmups.
Bad move as he woke up the sleeping racer in me.
Took two weeks to come back down.
Bob said he was “extremely impressed” with me.
After about 130 mph I didn’t look at the Speedo anymore.
1st turn was coming up pretty fast. lol

    IMG_7067.jpg

Still working on the 2000gt restore.

    Im still busy.. lol

    ON EDIT.

I will still post a few racing pics here and there if you would like.
    Just ask..
I have one or two lol.

Mike, you have too many things going on! I could never keep them organized! LOL! Good for you!

A bit of a bad day outside today, ie, 40* high, cloudy, and gusts to 29 mph! Yikes! A man cave day!

Hope everyone has a fulfilling day!

Don’t let the old man in..

Good Morning US Marine Chuck...still waiting on the shipment of warm weather :D. 41 chilly degrees out side. Dog walkers are moving at a brisk pace

Good Morning Mike :hattip:. I need a nap after reading your post. Busy is good and you are doing retirement right doing what you enjoy . Have a good one.

Good Morning Philip :hattip:. I have the same temperature without the wind so it is a bit more tolerable. Have a great "man cave" day.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals, Retired Racers, & Sue! All told, managed a big 0.11" of badly need rain. Oh well. Going to hit 80*, and the pots are all going into the greenhouse. I have today to do it, because it will be close to freezing Thursday morning.

So, with my penultimate day of radiation for my prostate cancer scheduled for tomorrow, I thought I'd share a few things which have gotten me through the last 8-weeks with relatively minimal fuss and discomfort.
    • Elimination: Per the instructions from the radiation center, I was required to take 15ml of Milk of Magnesia each morning prior to my treatment; basically they want bowels empty and bladder full when you arrive. Maybe some folks can tolerate that stuff, me, not so much; if anything it caused me to become more irregular, and by Saturday of my first week I could taste the magnesium around the clock. That was my last day taking that nasty stuff.
    • Excercise: Each morning in lieu of the Milk of Magnesia, I would get up, drink about 20 ounces of water (along with my Erleada dosage), and then engage in 2,000 stomach crunches; yeah, cleans you out pretty good. In addition to the floor exercises, I got my 42 year old bicycle out of storage and started riding it to my radiation appointments (I'm lucky as the center is only a few very hilly miles away); given the morning traffic in this area of Maryland, I figure the bike only takes an extra five minutes compared to driving.
    • Diet: Not only do one's tastes change (some a lot, some not much, in my case a very significant change), but many foods which I've eaten for years made me quite ill, especially the first meal after my morning treatments. For decades now I've enjoyed breakfasts of eggs and toast, or cold cereal, or hot oatmeal, all of which were no bueno starting about two weeks into my treatments. I began casting around for low fiber/high protein foods (per my Oncologist), and believe it or not, King Oscar sardines in the gold pack, packed in olive oil (undrained), and a banana turned out to be my go-to breakfast for the last six weeks; who'da thunk it?
    • Hydration: I typically hydrate well consuming up to six liters of green tea daily (yeah, I pee a lot), however, as with my diet, the green tea started tasting nasty and making me ill about two weeks into my therapy. Given how monumentally important hydration is during treatments, my Oncologist recommended buying cranberry concentrate and hydrating with very diluted cranberry juice; my body tolerated that well, and while I am not normally a fan of cranberry juice, due to how my tastes have changed, I found the just quite delightful.
    • Rest: I was advised I would need to take naps daily and get at least 8-hours of sleep per night, and judging by my fellow patients at the radiation center, that advice is spot on. That said, I am still working full time and have no such luxury, fortunately I have only needed one nap, and that was the day after my daughter conned me into getting a flu and COVID vaccine at about the half-way point of my treatments. Yeah, a nap the next day was unavoidable. My Oncologist is theorizing the fact I've exercised literally every day since I started treatments is the reason why I haven't needed to nap.
    • Attitude: To paraphrase our friends in 12-step programs, one-day (or one-week depending upon one's preference) at a time; always assume tomorrow will be better than today (that will not be the case, but it helps to stay positive) and keep one's eyes on the prize of finishing one's treatments.
I absolutely hope and pray nobody else here will need to go through this, but if some folks do, I hope the above can help them get through it.

Yes time waits for no one, it's true. Are you still going to do track days and other non-competitive events? Or are track days over altogether?

When I did the Porsche track days I wasn't looking at the speedo either! Too busy watching all the other stuff I needed to see. They sent us data readouts for some of the laps though and I was surprised at the speeds we were hitting, even on the relatively short straights at Barber.

And YES PLEASE post pics when you feel the urge.

While I'm posting: :pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/storytellers. I've been working on the Caterham Super 7 quite a bit, finally getting around to putting a dry sump system on it so I *hopefully* stop wrecking oil sumps! I've damaged two sumps on the car in two years, the last of which was almost a year ago and took the car off the road until just about a week ago. Talk about procrastination...

Yesterday I replaced one of the gutter heat tapes that the !@#$%&! squirrels chewed through. I don't care for ladders and the gutter that needs the heat tape is 20+ feet off the ground in places; needless to say it's not what I call a fun job. But it went remarkably smoothly all things considered. Our gutters have bars going across them every few feet, so the tape has to be pushed/pulled along the gutter rather than just laid in, which has been a huge PITA in the past. This time it went pretty well though. Less time on ladders is fine by me.
