I could kind of forgive the disappointing fuel economy of my 3rd Gen if the truck were better at towing. Even my 4x4 ATV on a 5x8 open trailer makes the truck work harder than I think it should. Maybe you can find some comfort in that. I'd really like to go test drive a 4th Gen but I know better than to tempt myself like that.

With a proper or properly considered break in period my fuel economy got mostly within the EPA rated range more like 2000-3000 miles. High speed kills it and so does a big headwind - especially if carrying. Still, that beats past Toyotas, and my city driving beats what our Sienna that was same engine family and 6 speed auto transmission as prior models.

I can't help you on the tires matter. While not an off road hobbyist, I'm a MTB trail builder and ski area crew using my pickup off road a lot. It is very capable as a stock TRD OR long bed.

hey, i recognize it as unhealthy and unhelpful. i'll get over it eventually, i did the same thing with my 3G for a couple months then completely stopped caring. though i might still care a little more with the smaller tank - that decision baffles me.

I don’t hate the idea of an electric truck except for the fact that they’re entirely impractical for truck things right now. The existing ones can go less than 100mi when hauling their max rated load and take hours to charge back up on anything besides DC fast chargers, which don’t exist in many of the places you’d be hauling loads to. Unless there’s some battery tech breakthrough and a buildout of charging infrastructure (that actually works, unlike much of what you’d pull up to now), I expect the next generation Tacoma will probably be a less mild hybrid. The current one seems to be as mild as it is only because they didn't want to or couldn’t find someplace to put a bigger traction battery.

So tired of seeing these posts asking about a 4 banger. This isnt your papa 4 banger. Gets more horsepower and torque than outgoing v6. It will be plenty to tow a SXS.

If a cute Honda Pilot can tow your trailer, 4gen Tacoma can. But the idea can you slow down, and stop in time. Not standing with full weight on brake pedal.

F1 engines are "only" a 1.6L 6 cyl. But nobody calls them underpowered. OP might want to look at the F450 king ranch. Great tow capacity.

Our enterprise has outside audits after our accounting department audits what operations does. That's really good support for the Ford, Rivian & Freightliner trucks not working as you imagine or see evidently see.

For the smaller trucks - Ford, Rivian - they don't purposely drag race a maximum trailer but for a good while they haul thousands of pounds in a dual axle trailer between stores making 85 to 176 mile trips just fine. Of course fast charging can be pertinent but starting the day charged and a little charge at some of the sites makes them not just low cost to operate but cuts labor costs.

For sure some places have horrible infrastructure but wow has it improved in the last two years and accelerated now that many states can legally resell electricity and construction backlogs are catching up.

One problem with EV pickups is 5.5 ft beds or not so practical beds. The new RAM supposed to ship this or next month will solve the bed length issues. Our van fleet has that length matter solved but they are not same as pickups.

Personally I'm looking forward to a pocket-sized, zero-maintenance nuclear reactor, warp drive, perpetual motion machine, or some such. I'd pay another $25k up front to never have to fuel/charge the truck over a 500k mile useful life. Batteries and charging stations aren't really the future...

Have you seen Edison Motors? Not consumer level trucking yet, but I think they are working on some conversion kits for larger pickups.
