My automatic transmission is starting to act up on me at 147k miles and a thought popped into my head.
    A manual conversion.
    I have a 2010 v6 4x4.
Does anyone know a transmission that will mate up to that and retain 4x4?
    Has anyone done this before?
What other parts would be needed to do this?

I would imagine a tacoma manual transmission would work?

but I would think cost of retrofitting a manual into an auto would be exorbitantly high compared to just slapping in a used auto trans. I had the same idea years ago when I destroyed my truck in the desert. Opted for a low mileage (36k) auto transmission instead and after labor cost about $1000

That is super cheap, how did you find it?

The shop I ended up taking it to for the insurance repair was the one who sourced it, I'm guessing from a junkyard or similar source. checking records looks like parts and labor was about $1200 or so.

Junkyards are probably gonna ask above $1200 for an RA60F.
An RA60F is not worth $1200.

that does not include the price of having to deal with the pressure plate, clutch, and throwout bearing.

There's a few of us who've done the swap. I wanted a double cab long bed and Toyota, in their infinite wisdom, doesn't make that configuration available with a manual tranny. Years of trying to live with the auto had me wanting to get rid of the truck. But I love the rest of it and hope to keep it for a long, long time so the swap made sense to me.

It was a ton of time and even more money but you can read about it at the link below. It references several threads here including BilldaCat's hydraulic release bearing and RC62f swap (the updated and much improved manual transmission out of the 3rd gen Tacoma. TacoTuesday is right. The RA60f in 2nd gens is regarded as a pretty terrible transmission).
