I’m new to the forum. I have a 2017 SR5 with 110k miles. I live in Northern NJ. I’m interested in finding out more about using my truck as a beach buggy for striper fishing, and opinions regarding to do or not to do dealership transmission service. I also just posted about needing new tires.

What's up and welcome! Fellow jersey guy here. Which beach are you looking to buggy on? I've had the season passes for both Brigantine and Island Beach. In terms of tires and beach driving contrary to most wheeling situations, you want something fat or at least with a good amount of sidewall to air down onto to. Especially with the loose sugar sand of our coast, you don't want anything that's going to dig down; you want to float over it. Big chunky MT's are just about the worst thing you could go with because you'll quickly find yourself framed since they tend to excavate instead of go over loose terrain. Stick with AT's for sure. I've pulled out multiple Jeeps and other trucks with MT setups, meanwhile I just run Cooper Discoverers and don't even have to use 4x4 most of the time.
Talking from 15+ years of experience with sandy fire trails and beach driving here.

Thanks for the input. I’m thinking Island Beach makes most sense for me. We see guys on the beaches just north of there but wouldn’t you have to buy a pass from each municipality you drive on?

Yeah it's usually township by township. IBSP is awesome. Usually not too crowded even in the summer months since they only sell a set amount of passes, and no one lives within walking distance of the buggy areas for the most part.

Mostly fish Sandy Hook now but living way up in Northern NJ, I can really see the advantage of being able to move up and down the beach looking for birds, bait and boats.
