Speaking of injuries curious what "major" injuries people have from riding? Ie surgeries or perma-broken.

So far I've had 2 shoulder surgeries and a broken finger.

So far I have been pretty lucky to avoid any injuries while riding, but I've only been riding about 3.5 years.

As long as your not doing anything stupid and paying attention to where your going 95% of the time nothing will happen. Atleast thats what i believe. 5% bad luck and shit drivers.

I was dumb and crashed right after wrist surgery, so the original injury wasn’t from riding, but my worse than original scar tissue, ROM, and pain are haha.

I was there when @gixxerphil broke his leg. He said he was going under 5 mph but he was looking off in the distance...

So I finally figured out the KLX450R countershaft seal problem... there was a small gouge/groove in the bore, maybe from when the PO's or a mechanic pulled the seal. I tried dabbing in some JB and RTV, but they just got pulled into the bore when I set the seal. So I took a little section of o-ring and held it in place while I set the seal and that plugged the hole. I know a LOT about how to do that job again!

New sprockets are on the bike and I'll do the chain tomorrow. The rear sprocket I got turns out to be a 49 vs what was on it... which was marked "JT C49" but upon closer inspection is a 47... so I guess I have better trail gearing now (14x49). Can't wait to go ride it this weekend!

Hmm.... All my major riding injuries came from the dirt lol.

    1. Gnarly thigh muscle bruise (probably torn) after low siding on the dirtbike track and having the bike slam pinch my leg between the bike and a softball size rock. Whole leg was black and blue for a few weeks. This was in highschool, used a yellow whiffle ball bat as a cane hahah.

    2. Cruising back to camp after some super fun technical random riding in the hills of the desert. Just putting at like 30 down a dirt road enjoying the scenery. Didn't see a rock as I was looking off to the side riding one handed. Instantly on the ground face first as the front of the bike got kicked sideways quick. (FULL FACE HELMET ALWAYS PEOPLE). Helmet pushed goggles into my nose n broke it.

Was interesting explaining what looked like me getting into a fight (nose all black and blue) to my new employer 2 days later.

    3. Worst one was messing around at the dirt riding spot up the street from me on my new to me wr450. Looped it and my foot got smashed between the kickstand stop and the ground (kickstand stop was a HARD 90deg that punctured the top of my boot).

Broke the first meta tarsal (big bone in big toe). 5screws a plate and a pin and a surgery to put that shit in and out later. Was non weight bearing for 8 weeks.

The kickstand stop has been ground fully flat and I don't wear anything other than super stiff high armor off road boots anymore. (Gaerne Enduro Fastbacks)

The plate lives on my trucks keyring haha

Worst injury ever was a femur / knee / tibia injury snow skiing that was attributed to ATHLETIC KNEE BRACES. stopped using those for dirt riding etc after that

I was out for over 20 minutes. I have no memories for 3 weeks after this incident. My wife took videos of all of the Dr. visits for me

    https://youtube.com/shorts/ltNEIOGinwA?si=OFeGn6SO79szjbPM

    Injuries:
    1) Left ACL replaced
    2) Right rotator cuff (100% tear, dislocated shoulder)
    3) Broken left elbow
    4) Broken left pinky (whatever)
    5) 2 concussions

I actually ride with my primary care Dr. He broke his collarbone on one of the rides ;)

Back in 1995 I bought the Buell in my avatar as my gift to myself for my divorce being finalized. Sadly enough my newly ex-wife was still getting support from me coming out of my check and it was supposed to have been stopped. I rode the bike to a meeting at our are domestic relations office to find out how to make this stop. Meeting didn't really go well and they pretty much told me it would stop when they decided it will stop. Kind of a giant F-you to me. Leaving the meeting on my Buell my mind just kept rehashing what had taken place and my mind was everywhere but on my riding. I failed to see a traffic light turn red and the car in front of me that had stopped. Smashed right into the back bumper of the stopped car. Broke my right wrist and smashed the shit out of my 4 month old bike. No surgery but 6 weeks in a cast for my troubles.

2002, same Buell I was on my home home from a doctor's appointment where it was determined I did indeed have a hernia. It was an early evening in May and still light out, around 7:00pm and I'm almost home. I'm on a 2 lane road less than a quarter mile from my development and as I come around a left hand bend in the road there is a deer standing broadside in the middle of my lane, not moving. There is a car in the oncoming lane and just off the right shoulder a guardrail with a steep drop off on the other side of it. I braked as hard as I could but there was just not enough road left between me and the doe. I'm told when I hit the deer I had the most glorious stoppie going on I likely ever pulled. Bike and I slammed down on the left side and I watched the bike slide further up the road. Lots of bruising to both hips and thighs but nothing broken. Once more bike was repaired.

2019 on my 2007 FJR1300 my g/f and I were on vacation at a FJR meet in Maggie Valley, NC and were out riding for the day. We were heading for lunch near the town of Newport, TN following a tractor trailer. Tractor trailer was going to turn right onto a road that intersected the road we're on a a sort of a Y intersection. I was still in my lane and proceeding slowly as the truck driver made his turn. A car coming out of the Y intersection decided to make his left turn around the turning tractor trailer and proceeds right into my lane hitting us head on. Thankfully I was going pretty slow, under 15 mph and the intruding Honda sedan was not going very fast either, I hit him squarely in the middle of his front end with me landing near dead center of his hood while Dianne fell off the back of the bike onto her back in the middle of the road. Bike was a total loss with the front forks bent back into the header and radiator. I ended up with badly sprained left wrist, Dianne had 2-3 vertebrae with compression fractures that took months to heal. The truck driver was really our saving grace in this ordeal. He had a dash cam and got video of the entire thing. He left his rig blocking the entire intersection and refused to move it until the police downloaded the video and took his statement. Police cited the Honda driver at the scene.

Oddly enough I just noticed all of these are exactly 17 years apart.... Thinking I might just park my bikes in 2036......
