2021 SR V6 vs 2024 TRD off Road V4

Hello everyone I’m potentially looking at trading my 2021 at 18000 miles for a factory new 2024 TRD off road. I like the specific 2024 because I want the 6ft bed but I have some concerns. Specifically I have avoided getting the hybrid trail master with a similar 6ft bed because I have heard people complain about the engine. I was looking for any advice people might have on pros vs cons. As for why I’m trading in I’m moving to a cold weather climate and my truck has several exterior issues that would need to be resolved that make me very anxious. For starters there are multiple pockets of rust alongside the frame that appear to be caused by an accident from the previous owner and I’m not aware of the extent of the frame damage and it does not sit well with me. I could repair it but at that point I imagine trading in for a new truck would be better overall

 

What complaints about the engine are you hearing? Everything I've read says it blows the V6 out of the water. There is a TSB for the transmission affecting certain VIN's, but on the whole it's a much better truck. I'm also finding several Trail Hunters below MSRP which will help some adjust to the price increase.
I'd suggest driving one to see how you feel about it to make a more informed decision.

 

The big thing I’ve heard is the battery will kill itself after a few years on the hybrid in addition that the engine is extremely complex and repairs are harder

 

"First year for a new model". For some the new model is what they want despite the risks of being untested in the wild. For others it is too much "new" too soon.

I like the looks of the 2022 and whince at the looks of the Gen 4. Also the look of the interior of Gen 4 is too "trendy" for me. But you may like those.

A complaint that a friend made about 2024 models is that the only engine offered is a turbo 4 banger. That engine is a rugged one, but the turbo requires some time to wind up. That delay is a problem, according to the friend. I prefer the V6 in my truck.

 

That is something I noticed when test driving. The truck took about 20 seconds for the engine to wind up but it was completely smooth sailing after. The hybrid did not have the wind up and drove more like a sports car but the ride quality was significantly worse. I really enjoyed the driving feel on the non hybrid

 

He is saying it's an I4 not a V.
Also I think your test drive had an issue, no turbo Tacoma takes 20 seconds to build boost. It has a turbo problem if it does.
