Yep… hopefully it looks better in person. It’s definitely color dependent though, at least in pictures. Some colors it’s tolerable, others not as much.

 

Which is really ironic since the survey being thrown around references 2021 Tacomas only after 3 years of ownership.

He doesn't read the details, nor does he care. He trusts what he believes is "raw data," and he's free to twist it any way he pleases to meet his narratives. I already told him this last week:

Whats wild is I can I state I fully agree with his opinion that Toyota is #1, yet because I recognize that the sources he's trying to use to prove his point are irrelevant, he's just offended and can't even recognize that I actually agree with his original opinion.

The pair are only 4 years old (TC5 and DC5.) They are basic, no wifi, pick the temp and cycle then hit start. They replaced 10 year old basic whirlpools.

These should last into retirement, only 30 more years to go.

It's the Ford Protect Premium Care. Extended warranty program Ford offers (just like Toyota does) the difference is they have options for longer length of ownership and higher mileage. The premium care is quite pricey when you stretch it out long term and high miles, but stuff is getting expensive on every little repair.

I have wanted to build a truck camper rig for a while and have gone back and forth on trucks. Toyota is out because of the payload so I would have to go domestic. Since it was the big 3 and their less than stellar reputations of reliability I started digging into which one of them has the longest highest mileage factory coverage available and it looks like Ford wins in that category, (they might actually win in that category across the board). It is pricy though.

As an interesting note, Toyotas have actually been the vehicles that I have needed the extended warranties on under 100K.

Which Toyota model/year and what problems?

 

2020 randomly took out throttle body and ECU, drove 15 miles, stopped for lunch, got in to start it back up and it threw a million lights and went into limp mode, I was eating lunch across from a toyota dealer so I limped it over and dropped it off. They have to replace the ECM to find out that the TB was toast. If not under warranty $1500 repair. 3 weeks later blower motor going out. 69,000 miles on the truck.

2016 stock no mods (Only vehicle I mod is Jeep) wheel bearings were an issue under 80K

I have owned Chevy trucks (2), Ford Trucks (2) Ram Trucks (3) Jeeps (6, I have a wrangler/CJ problem) Subaru (4) and none of them ever had to go back to the dealership for any issue or repair (outside of maintenance) under 100,000 miles. I won't say they were all problem free but nothing under 100K

I don't have an issue with Toyota at all, I just bought a Corolla Hybrid for one of the kids, but my experience with them has not been bad, but its not all roses, and when they do break in my experience most of the time they are more expensive to repair.

 

So the '20 was under warranty for the ECU but not for the $100 blower motor?

For the '16, wheel bearings were ~$1,100?

Not sure what the cost of the Toyota extended warranty is but using the link you provided, a 5yr/100K extended warranty on new 2025 Ranger is $1,150 plus a $100 deductible. If the Toyota warranty is the same cost and that was my experience with out of warranty repairs, I'd role the bones and not get the extra warranty.

 

The Toyota was under warranty for all the repairs. For your use case I am sure that would work going without the warranty, and people do have different risk tolerance. I have usually gotten more than I paid, or broke even on the warranties for vehicles I have purchased, either by using them or getting money back on them after I sold the vehicle.

If you want to keep an expensive machine and work it hard hauling and working the drivetrain off hwy, camping and traveling for a number of years. Fords available warranty is compelling with the availability of 10 years and 175K. A lot of expensive things can and do go wrong after 100K and hauling a heavy camper and having it on the vehicle full time can create a higher chance of failure. I am not actually that big of a Ford fan, but I am a fan of not having do deal with expensive repairs at what usually is the worst time. (Murphy's law and all)

My expectation for any modern vehicle is that they should be able to function without too much fuss up to 100K and 5 years and if they can't I am quick to send them down the road. I like to have the peace of mind when you get up over that mileage and time to not have a 5K or more repair put me on the side of the road unexpectedly and my research into domestic trucks led me to Fords warranty program. Ram is second with their program but it is not as many years of miles.

Now I have not been able to determine how good the actually warranty is in regards to actually doing what they say. As I said, I am just starting to go down the rabbit hole.

 

You had a 2016 and now a 2020. Are you really going to keep your next truck 10 years? Get a new truck and keep it for 5/100 and save the $5,500 for the replacement truck. Factor in the cost of the 100K service (not covered by any warranty) and the fact that the new truck has new tires, fresh oil change, new wipers, new shocks, new everything...

 

Wait, new trucks come with new wiper inserts? Shit, I'll take 3!

 

I tried entering a 2025 Ranger. The longest coverage they offer is 60k.

 

Maybe your state?....This is for a 2025 Ranger off of the site, and I believe the screen grab above is also a 2025 Ranger.

The only thing I can think of is possible your state. It works for me, I have ran them on used and new Fords anywhere from Super Duty's to F150's etc. All offer up 10 year 175K coverage in the different coverage levels.

 

It's doing it for every state I've tried (15 or so).
