    The thread lives.

What you guys scooping on Black Friday/Cyber Monday? I just upgraded my system to a 9800x3d so I've got my eye out for a 7900xtx to go with it. Doesn't seem like the 4080 super prices are going to budge much even with 5xxx dropping soon so I'm thinkin screw Nvidia. This is the first AMD system I've had since like the Athlon.

Doesn't look like the market is much in my favor with my old build. I think a friend might buy it for cheap to use with a golf simulator he's installing.

I still need to get my new build up and running. I have really delayed getting it started for no good reason. I need to just boot it up and figure out how to transfer Windows. Or even just buy a new one if my friend will need it on my current PC.

All this talk of old computers makes me think to suggest repurposing them to work as Plex servers. I’ve got an old M1 Mac Mini that’s been a Plex server for me for at least ten years. If you have heaps of physical media and don’t want to keep getting it out then it’s definitely worth looking into. They offer a purchase option but most people really don’t need it as the free version works so well.

Bought this bad boy, was waiting for the sales.

I sat in probably hundreds of chairs, its such a pain to find one, these seem to have a sound reputation. Secretlabs was a consideration but a bit too expensive for the "tall" model.

Nice! The GABRYLLY Ergonomic Office Chair in the Amazon link at the bottom of this thread is a solid choice if anyone else is looking. They go on sale multiple times a year, and I think I got mine for around $140 (US). Would definitely buy again, and would buy the rollerblade wheel replacements again.

I had a hard time finding the right chair. I think secret labs are very over rated and not that comfortable. While in Vegas a few years ago, I came across a Razer retail store and fell in love with their Iskur X, which was about $500-600. It was by far the most comfortable and well built chair i could find. I would have preferred it to be 100% black, but the green stitching has grown on me. And you never really see the "For gamers, by gamers"
    https://www.razer.com/mena-en/gaming-chairs/razer-iskur-x/RZ38-02840100-R3G1
They discontinued them particular chair and had a close out this summer and I picked it up for $270.

I feel that all of the gaming chairs equally suck honestly, but I have some lower back issues, so my tolerance for comfort is a little more subjective than most. I have a friend with a secret labs chair, and while the quality feels a little nicer than others, the comfort just isn't there for me. Tried the cheap Amazon gaming chairs, and they're like sitting on 2 pieces of plywood with thigh bolsters. My wife bought a Corsair chair, and while its essentially the same thing, it seems to not be as aggressive and feels a little better. All in all, I still prefer the office chair, and it'll have to do until I build a dedicated rig for a Bride/Recaro bucket seat:anonymous:

Having worked in an office environment for over a decade, 12 hours a day, nothing beats an office chair meant for long sitting periods.

That's what pushed me to buy an Office Depot Work Pro 9000 chair years ago; I'm still rocking that chair and even with sciatica, my back never hurts no matter how long I sit in it.

Funny you should mention the "2 pieces of plywood with thigh bolsters" concept. I took one of those chairs apart some years ago to make a temporary weld repair for my daughter, and that is EXACTLY what I found. Moreover, the two pieces of plywood had been previously used as concrete forms!

How does the thigh support/cushion hold up? I have a cheap Staples chair for a few years that was surprisingly good (I actually cut out the lumbar support because the design basically made it two prongs shoving directly into my lower back...) but two annoying things now are that it slooooooowly sinks as you sit in it over 40 minutes and the thigh cushion is shot so my legs sink and then just rest on the hard plastic, and turn my hips in.

I'll definitely check that one out, I can't sit for more than an hour I just get flat out bored and have to move around a bit but good to hear it's worked well for you. Everyone's body is different but I'm ready to try another chair.

Chair is pushing about 10 years now, and the cushion is still firm and supportive

Funny thing is, and I still remember this because I was shocked at the pricing, the chair was their $600+ model. Again this is over a decade ago.

I had gone in during one of their huge sales where most models were between $100 - 200 off.

The chair I had gone in to buy is the one with the "mesh" bottom just like its seat back. Same 9000 Pro model though.

    (Ignore the dog hair)

    20241122_080303.jpg

They had the chairs on display next to their respective boxes and when I grabbed mine to get it rung up, it came at a different price. After the manager came over to try and figure it out (because it was still a 9000 series Pro, so we were all confused), they wrote it up at the sale price of the mesh bottom chair.

Wasn't until I got home to assemble it that I noticed I got the cushioned bottom and that's why it didn't come up on sale at all. The cushion variant was another $100 above the non-cushion chair.

I paid half the regular price on this thing and after many years spent, I'd say it's definitely worth the retail price even.

    A man of culture :hattip:

That's Biscuit - I accidentally adopted her when we visited the shelter on the way out to get groceries; that happened just over 2 years ago :anonymous:

Had to put our other dog down (Bronx) a few months ago, so I'm hoping Biscuit is around long enough to be my kid's bestfriend. We got her at 8 weeks old so...

Finally got my desk cable management done. Need to mess with three wires but 99% is done.

Got a new desk a couple months ago along with a new PC case (Corsair 700D).
