It was unnerving to say the least.

Another time that tripped me out was one evening I decided to go to the lower tier on the property, but as soon as I got to the stairs to start walking down in complete darkness, I heard to most unworldly GROWL that sounded like it came from something HUGE. FUCKING DEEP. I was like laters! Walked back up backwards in case it was a cougar.

No joke, Charlie Chaplin’s hangout away from Hollywood was next door.

It wasn’t a bear(rarely growl?), although they have been coming back into the Santa Monica Mountains.

I forgot, we call them mountain lions. We’ve witnessed mixed coyotes, big boys, but that growl was too damn deep.

Happy Day of welding brothers and sisters!

Brother Weld, just do it. Time flies on this planet. TIG is so damn versatile it will lift your game tremendously.

My Grande competition hot saw lost the threading on the crank, flywheel side, AND!!!! There was a small gap, so that means the nut didn’t get to its position  All good, I’ll hack when the seals aren’t doing their job anymore and build my own stroker crank. Presently at 136cc’s.

So, fuck it, tacked the nut and welded around to encompass both the nut and washer. Hard to accomplish a clean job with MIG. Can be brazed with silicon bronze, but will it hold in inertia conditions? (I think so)

Neighbor bought an accessory for his squat rack that didn’t have the right size diameter pin.

Had him pick up a half inch rod and went to work.

Why exactly can't I weld cast iron? I dropped on of the grills for my BBQ and I got 3 cracks. I cleaned it with a wire wheel and used tig on it with no filler. It was super weird. It burned through way faster than I expected.

I was going to suggest pre-heating as I've always had to do that with any cast, prior to welding. But it's also dirty as hell.

I'd just MIG it and hit it with a flap disc to smooth.

    Because it's " pot" metal.

Anything iron that will melt in the pot gets poured into the mold.

Good luck. There are so many different ferric metals present, finding a welding rod that will stick is pure luck.

It can be done, but it won't be very easy or pretty.
