I dunno, after looking into it more the whole “rare black diamond edition” is an unofficial labeling of initial Disney VHS tapes sold between 1984 and the early 90s. Basically just regular 1st edition vhs.
Earlier this year at a charity auction, someone put an insanely high bid on some of them and ever since then some people have been listing them at crazy prices. But if you look at more eBay listings, most just go for $30 - $50 each. I don’t think anyone is realistically paying thousands for these vhs tapes unless maybe they’re unopened special editions or something like you said

so…to the donation pile they go. Someone else with more time can make a few bucks off them if they want. Have a couple old Nikon digital cameras I’m just gonna donate too (D2 and a D3s). Been up in the attic for years and no idea if they work anymore, don’t have their cables or battery chargers. Someone is gonna score on this donation box. Probably the dude that works there and goes through it.

 

Most the times rare things are only worth it if you send them in to get graded first.

but once any thing has been open and used the price drops dramatically. A 10 grade black edition could be worth 1000s but a 1 grade of the same thing can be worth a 1$. The grading process cost money too so some times its not worth it
