Probably having to switch rigs really wish Yota had a 3/4 ton!

My son-in-law owns his own construction company. He’s got a platinum crew cab F350 with a 8 foot bed. He always has a mountain of building supplies, baby stuff, and other shit inside that truck.

My brother had a 300 about 4 decades ago that began running rough, probably due to overheating. He made it home and removed all the head bolts then carefully removed both halves of the head.

Those old step vans are very simple mechanically and the body (Grumman Olsonette) is almost all flat aluminum.

A nice platform for a small custom camper or just to drive around town with, my 300 powered P-350 got around 15 mpg so not horrible.

It’s a 2009 E250 with a 4.6 and the heavy hauling and tow package. It can haul something like 3,500 pounds and tow 6,500. It’s a “Window Cargo” so it only has two front seats. Former UW Madison maintenance vehicle. I haul all sorts of stuff with it. It takes forever to get to 75 which is about as fast as you want to drive this with a trailer anyway. We tow my 17’ Glastron with it all the time. I’m currently going to sleep in it at deer camp. With this and my Tacoma, we can move incredible amounts of stuff. IMG_0188.jpg

Lol! The new GMC truck at work- a 2500hd sle model with the newfangled tailgate can haul a shit ton. Except that there is a recall on it that the electric tailgate- it can open all by itself. Maybe it decides on what it wants to haul! Stupid recalls on tech we don't need. Now I have to waste time and schedule a service appointment go and deal with it. I don't remember this being a selling feature or at least they didn't mention it. Toyota should capatilize on the 3/4 ton platforn, it would be like stealing candy from a baby!

A Toyota HD will be like a domestic Tacoma competitor, just there for appearances but no real threat to sales.

If I needed one, it would be the first place I'd go, it wouldn't take much to improve on the domestics
The 2024 GMC has had 3 issues so far. Reprogram for a drivability problem, rear tailgate camera failed and now the tailgate can open on its own. 15k miles. No threat? Haha. There are many Toyota Tacoma/ Tundra owners that would love to drive a big 3/4 ton truck. They overload their Toyota rather than drive one of those junkers.

Now is the time to get good deals on a HD, Ford Super Duties rank pretty well in customer ratings for what they are worth.

I got my eye on this bute
    [IMG]

I wonder if the yellow could be ordered on a STX.

Earlier this year there was a F-350 Super Cab 8' bed 4x4 STX 7.3 V8 FX4 rear slider and power inverter in Silver, listed for around 8k off a 66k sticker. That looked like a hell of a deal, there are still a good number of 24s in that configuration around.

F-150 had a similar tailgate recall, GM said there's is a short in the wiring or switch. I would not be surprised if this will be an ongoing issue across all manufactures with a tailgate switch in the cab.

They have to have good reliability ratings, every single municipality uses these things day in and day out and does a half assed job of maintaining them.

The yellow one almost looks like it was some type of commercial contract that fell through, I would really squeeze him for a good deal.

Could not bring myself to buy any GM made vehicle again. I used to be tried and true gm but in 2011 I had a new Silverado and the wife a Malibu both top of the line I blew my motor at 29000 miles and fought the dealer on warranty as they had done all maintenance finally a new motor was ordered but they were caught rebuilding the motor and trying to keep the new motor. Then the wife’s sunroof imploded and they tried to blame it on her till I had a factory glass rep come out and he showed a bulletin showing the rear vents were not opening on those models causing extreme pressure difference and blowing the sunroofs if there was the slightest flat in the glass.
So yep no way. I like the ford a lot so far and love the aluminum body
