I have a 2007 Tacoma access cab base model. No power door locks and windows also manual rear view mirrors. Want to install a Viper alarm with a kill switch and power door locks. So I went to a alarm and stereo shop and the installer said I should get the the oem style door lock actuators instead of using the universal ones that they sell. Also he told me that they would have to cut up the doors to make the universal ones fit. Anyone else did this conversion?

Ok decided to go the oem style locking latch. The installer had a brand new set on the side so installed it so far so good! He told me he had experience with aftermarket actuators going bad in about a year! so just wanted to update you guys! aloha!!!

I installed this exact set up in my 05 regular cab and it can be made to work with standard aftermarket actuators if you take your time and know what you are doing. I spent 15 years as an installer so it wasn't a big deal for me. That said your installer is right, it's a lot more reliable and easier to use the oem actuators as they bolt right in place and you don't have to modify anything to fit them, I just had a set of aftermarkets in my tool box from my install days.

Right on! I'm glad he told me to go that route! Talk about a base model truck that I have so far did the wiper switch conversion, alarm system will starter kill and power door locks and redid the cylinder head due to a burnt exhaust valve and a bent intake valve on number 3 cylinder. Hopefully I can find some x-runner wheels and a set of front x-runner seats!
