    Don't flex on me bro.
I don't have the ECT, but I think "sport" mode is equivalent. The Eco mode is just crap. Lugs the engine in too low of RPM, doesn't downshift when it should, thrashes the turbo in low RPM which is stupid. Normal does better, but sport has the best feel to it, only it never gets into 8th gear until about 80mph, which is a bit high. Wish there was a Normal+ or something. The fuel usage is so minimal between these modes, it seems odd to name them as such. It's basically "stop and go", "City/Hwy commute" and "Hard and fast".

    no need to get hostile

I'm sure it sucks not having a rear locker, Multi-Terrain select and Crawl control, or sway bar disconnect on your 4th gen TRD sport.. at least there are lots of graded dirt roads in ID waiting for you.

Offroading 4th Gen owners should get rear lower control arms skids for the forward bracket before scraping a rock and bending it - just like the video shows. This is the easiest hit area because they are ahead of the rear wheels. A pair is less than $150.

I just got my 3rd gen and already can't wait to upgrade to a 4th in a few years. The engine is the absolute worst in the world for this truck. I figure Toyota can work all the bugs out by then and have a superior truck all the way around.

Here are the 12.75" ramp test pics at 1" front lift on Bilstein 5100s, no swaybar. Front droop decreases with the lift, and drops total front articulation down to 7.5" The 1.5" lift rear leaf springs and long shocks, compensated by flexing more to 15".

The 4th Gen's larger wheel wells and SDM makes the work to get more articulation and fit, significantly easier, and you keep the swaybar for highway.

Toyota still needs to work out their supply issue their trucks aren't any good if you can't buy one. I have yet to see a XC 4x4 with in 100 miles of me. The only other consideration I would make is a 4x4 long bed in bronze oxide.

This popped up on my YT feed early this morning--I'm subscribed.

I learn more about articulation every time I watch this guy.

He's quite detailed in his examination of vehicle suspension + other areas affected.

Are you 100% sure about that?

Anyone in Southern Cal care to thrash their Torque Gen for a few runs at Irwindale’s 1/8 mile for a friendly dash to the line?

Wow you must suck at off roading if you need all of those things for anything beyond a graded dirt road.
Here is a tip, try not to use all of those nanny’s next time you’re off road(assuming you even leave pavement) and maybe you will learn something.

How do you turn "a difficult trail environment" which I mentioned into a 1/8 mile dragstrip?

I'll bring my strapped busa with some engine mods though.. then we can run up the canyons from Malibu to the Rock Store and I'll have my 500 Sumo. LOL

Maybe you should have said a run up Olds at Glamis which I'm 100% positive the 4th gen would out motor the 3rd gen after the woops at the start near the bottom. The results would even be worse with a heavy weight set of wheels and tires (boat achors) fitted.

When do you want to try one of my favorite routes in ID? Right north of hwy 12 and it won't be a graded dirt road. You might leave my 3rd gen on the pavement but you will be glad I have a tow strap and my sat phone when you get off Hwy 12. How do you like trying to see over the 4th gen TRD Sport hood without a spotter in rough rocky terrain? You clearly win the keyboard warrior blue ribbon award.

Do you feel the 5100's are the cause of the decreased front droop? Although not measured specifically in the RTI tests, the 3rd gen TRD Pro appears to benefit from the slightly longer travel front Fox shocks (similar to the front Bilstein 6112) . Further using zero offset wheels improves the amount of droop by moving the tire centerline further from the pivot point (similar to the longer lower a-arm on the 4th gen).

I have no doubt all factors you mention play a role and add up.

I would do more and better components on Tacoma but I have my wife's FJ Cruiser on Icon suspension and 35s- better clearance and angles, as well as flex. My Tacoma is a daily work truck and driver.

you know nothing about fruit I see... and yet a heep at best. Playing like a school boy in a sand pit. Anything you do offroad, I'll do at least 4x as fast. That heep would just be another pylon to go around.

You won't even be able to follow my dust cloud when I pull my 500 out and head up to 13K' of elevation.

    upload_2024-11-23_9-47-46.jpg

You also won't ever get near these places in ID either with 4 wheels.. but then it takes much more skill to twist the right hand on two wheels for thousands of miles off-road in ID vs sitting in a chair on a frame at crawling speed. Anything else you can type to prove your ignorance about off-road travel?

understandable... mine is a daily also. Unless you bring it on a trailer to the playground, there are sacrafices one must make. I do think Toyota made a great decision on equiping the 4th gen TRD Off-Road with a sway bar disconnect as an option as shown in Tinkerer's video along with revised front axles that are more durable. Huge assets offroad to mate to with an upgraded engine and transmission. For my purposes I need a TRD Pro 2 door set up with a 6' bed... maybe something similar to this concept... but toned down slightly.. no fuel cell and spare tire in bed etc.. I've absolutely no need for rear seats and only a 5' bed in a truck I own.

Still funny. You’re the only one with experience on two wheels huh?

Just so you know, I stated stock be stock would be the best comparison when it comes to off road angles.

You made it about aftermarket and pro 3rd gen’s vs a stock 4g off road.

Now you are talking about riding dirt bikes in the mountains?

“School boy in the sand pit” trying to one up me constantly and defend, well I don’t even know at this point what you’re trying to defend.

Go ahead and get the last word though. I know you HAVE to get it in. Tell us how you climbed up Everest so you’re not only the best on 4 wheels, not only the best on two wheels, but also the best on your feet.

squids on cheap jap bikes like you are everywhere.. and why you running your forefinger on the clutch lever mid turn? Why isn't that knee scraping on pave? First time on a track with no competion.. ametuer day?

I take my MV Agusta Tursimo Veloce Lusso street bike on 1000 mile iron butt rides in a day and and the next day still ride it offroad on a jeep trail up a 11,800' pass in Colorado loaded with gear. I'd consider that skill (not squid) on a street moto.
