Usually go with Maker's after my father in law, but best I've had was a bottle of Laphroaig from Scotland I got for my wedding. True Scottish whisky is my bread, pb, and jam

What's nice about scotch are the various regions it comes from. Bon Appetit Magazine had an article some years ago that talked about each of them and how they affected flavor. I'm kinda lazy or I'd look for it but It was pretty good.

Oh, I'm a fan of the Oban and Balvenie.

Speaking of Rye, I bought a bottle of High West Double Rye. Whether it's a fine example of a double rye or not, idk. It was cheap enough. Recall that a double rye is a blend of both young and old rye whisky. The High West has been described by some as a "cocktail whisky" meaning it's not a sipper. Ratings wise, average is where it seems to land. I guess I'm gonna find out :)

It's not bad, don't worry. Pretty light but palatable.

If you like thin whiskey that tastes like it's had a burnt charcoal lump thrown in it...then hey, maybe it has healing properties.

Like being punched in the face by a campfire is how I describe it.

Well just did a side by side tasting of the new MWND and the Garrison Guadalupe and 3 out of 3 of us preferred the Guadalupe…. I’m SHOCKED. MWND tasted weak and light in comparison. I know it’s not a direct side by side but they are very similar. Before this I didn’t really like the Guadalupe but now I’m a convert…

That was the same for me. At first the garrison was meh. Then I did the side by side and it was the winner. I think it opened up a bit too after getting past the neck.
