I guess what comes around goes around. The CM case is the 250AI that’s been around a long time. The 6.5CM was the 6.5/250AI that’s had been around since at least the 60s. Hornady changed the 40 degree shoulder to 30 degree as their standard and acted like they invented the wheel. The 30 degree was around but not as popular as the 40.

Here’s some reloading info on it to get you primed. I love the 25 calibers.

Yeah I did a little digging, the main benefit now is going to be fast twist rifles and 130+ gr bullets being available. Looks like it's going to be ball park of a short action 270 with a stupid high BC. In 15 years or so, if it's still around I might think about picking one up... But I have a .243 and 25-06, so I may not also lol

I have two 250s and a 257R. I could get on board with another 25 but it would have to be a really nice rifle. It will just be nice having better 250AI brass.

One of my 250s in action earlier this week.

It really isn’t. The creedmore is very much off the .308 parent case, and is more derived from the .260 Remington.

What makes it “better” is simply the longer neck to handle heavier for caliber bullets…meaning longer… in a mag length manner.

I’d even argue that when talking about a wildcat “being around a long time” is not even actually being around at all.

Unless you have SAAMI publications that I dont.

The marketing is great, but it very much is the 250AI case with a 30 degree shoulder. Every generation thinks they’ve discovered something new.

    6.5CM can be run through a .308 lower (w/ a 6.5 barrel, that is.)
    The lower is the same.
    I'm running a .45 raptor barrel off a .308 lower.

I know. I have a SASS, in 6.5 creed. Like I said, mag length capable. However, that’s in a bolt gun too. Especially when you’re pushing 156 Berger’s, so you don’t have to single feed.

I mean, sure, I get that there’s marketing but a necked up 250 and a creedmoor are the least similar cartridges.

The case lengths aren’t the same. The power capacity isn’t the same. The neck sizes are similarly close but still the creedmore is longer.

…biggest difference is the creedmoor is a SAAMI cartridge and actually exist on the production line…

Many gun writers that reviewed the 6.5CM when it came out noted that is was the 250AI case necked up to 6.5 and even used 22-250 cases to form brass before cases became available. SAAMI is a relatively new thing in the world of cartridge development for listing wildcats. Newton and Ackley did almost everything possible long before SAAMI even thought about wildcats. There was no reason to document wildcats through SAAMI. I doubt Ackley ever registered a single round with SAAMI and yet we are still shooting his cartridges regularly.
The article I posted above noted the only change is the 30 degree shoulder.

Just because you couldn’t buy it in a store doesn’t mean it didn’t exist. Almost every factory cartridge existed as a wildcat long before becoming factory.
Regardless, those of us old enough to have seen it before recognize it when we see it again.

Now that the 25CM exists with brass, it an easy job the fire form brass in the 250AI. You can use 6.5CM brass to fire form the 250AI, but neck thickness is usually an issue.

Anyway, new 25 cartridges are always welcome, regardless of wether they are new or old.

I have the data right here. And attached. They aren’t the same. They are similar’ish. But again, the parent case is the .308 (via .30TC) and it’s closer to a 260 Remington both in case size, internal and external ballistics.

You mistake by point of SAAMI. I’m not saying it doesn’t exist. I’m saying that it wasn’t common. Unless you were 1 of 20 people to have asked a gunsmith to do it, it wasn’t a thing. SAAMI standards were around since the 70s…by new I’m assuming you mean newer than WW2, then yes, I suppose..

That’s still like 5 years after the 250 came out…

It’s all good. There are many of us with 250AIs and we can use creedmoor brass in most chambers because the dimensions are practically the same and only require a pass through a FL sizing die and fire forming. We are happy with our old stuff and others are happy with the new stuff. I’m all for new stuff and more shooters.
