for the 1sr genners with cb radios

I was re-routing my cb antenna wire today and making a new mount for it. I looked for the a moment and found an area where no drilling is required. I searched and didnt find anything on this so here you go
Ran the antenna wire along the top of the frame and ran the wire up through the stock access to behind taillights

Had to remove the tailights but that was easy 4 bolts and it's off

then i wriggles the wire through the top of the bed, where the end piece of the bed and the top of the bed meet, there is an opening about a 1/2 inch in diameter,

fnished, a nice clean look, with no drilling required at least no drilling into your truck for the wires

I better add in though to avoid those kinks and crushes and sharp bends-they change the resistance of the coax. Sensitive stuff setting up a transmitter-you need to treat that feedline with gentle hands. OP if you have extra coax laying around I would change out that crushed feedline.

 

i dont see where it's crushed and the radio works

 

ran mine to the plastic plug under my carpet and close to the frame and up behind the cab to my antenna on the drivers side of my bed.

I ran my diff breather up behind my lights there. Isn't there something about the length of the coax going to the antenna though?Like coil the excess or dont coil it? I don't know.

 

did the same thing with mine.

 

Cool if it works but it's got a crush and some slight kinks in the taillight area. Not criticizing just trying to help and offering some old school rule. Sorry.

haha well im sure you know more than i do, i tuned it with a swr meter and thats about the extent of it, i usually only use it for trails, but it's always on my truck

Nono-I wouldn't say I know more-I am just a perfectionist when it comes to feedline. I am so glad you mentioned SWR tuning-most folks seem to think CB is plug-n-play. In most cases the antennas for CB are around the ballpark of operatability out of the pkg. but when you actually tune that thing down to get max power to flow down that line and out that whip it is so much better as you know
I digress-good setup there BC-and that line route is clever.

 

DON'T coil it. If you do, it tends not to work, the guy at the truckstop said one guy bought three different CBs in a week saying they were all crap, turns out he coiled his coax. When we installed ours we even avoided sharp turns in the wire.

 

the bracket that mounts the antenna to your truck, is that custom or did you get it somewhere?

 

It looks like its just a piece of angle iron with the corners rounded a little.

 

i ran mine under the toolbox then i went over the top of my bed under my bedliner and went in the cab through a vent in the back which opened into the storage compartment under the seat in extended cabs.. sorry no pics.. i had to remove my bedliner to do this tho and get my 5 year old brothers small hands to remove the vent
