We camp on a friend’s property, and now shifting to our property, across the lake from Two Harbors in Port Wing, WI. I might head up for some snowshoeing and winter camping if we get snow this year. Do you venture into the snow/ice?

I’d be in the Sienna since ye olde taco is stored up for the winter.

Very cool! The South shore is so gorgeous. It's been fun exploring it a bit more since I've moved back. What's it like living in Port Wing?

I sure do like to get out in the snow and ice! Snowshoeing, fatbiking, XC skiing, etc. The only thing I haven't really gotten into yet it is ice climbing, haha.

Your taco is a lucky one, avoiding the road salt.

Whos running a diesel heater, and how does it hold up to our cold late fall MN nights?

I just got back from Missouri and those guys are big into diesel heaters, so now I'm looking at getting one and extending my camping season. I don't normal do much in MN because of the humidity and bugs in the spring and summer months, but with a heater I'd get out more in MN in Oct and Nov and even into Dec depending on snow.

I live in the twin cities. We bought vacant land this summer up there for hunting/camping/and maybe build a retirement place one day. It’s a beautiful area, and I’m lucky to get what I did.

I can handle teens degrees fine with no heater in my hammock, and probably closer to 0 in my ikamper. I can't really attest to diesel heaters but have looked into them a lot, my dad has one for his built off-road trailer, and the one thing we've noticed which is worth considering is they are quite loud actually. While I don't mind the ticking noise, it drives him crazy. Even through his insulated soundproof box. Something to also consider.

Yeah honestly I'm fine into teen temps as well. It would be more for the Mrs than anything. But I will admit, with a GoFast type setup it would be nice being able to heat the whole bed of the truck for changing and such.

The ticking may be an issue for me, but I've found some videos of replacing the pump with a few quieter options. The rest of the noise I didn't find bad and for me is actually welcomed. After 2 deployments overseas I cant sleep without some type of background noise.

I think I'm going to get one. Vevor has one thats supposed to auto-adjust for elevation up to 18k ft, so thats what I'll probably go with. I think I'll run it on kerosene though. Sounds like its cleaner and less likely to clog, just might need to add a lubricant.

Unrelated, any interest in attending some overland expos this next year? We are trying to make it to my buddies in Arkansas in March, Jasper Jeep Jam (not just for jeeps). Also hoping to make it to Overland of America in NE in Sept (I met Kris who runs this, awesome guy and an awesome cause), RITO in Arkansas which I think is in October, and thinking of Overland Expo Mountain West in Colorado in August.

I was considering heading down for the Moore Expo in April since I have a friend in the area. Probably less than 50/50 at this point though.

Might end up in Japan for work this summer, if I do I’ll be taking 3wks vacation there and letting the man cover my round trip tickets.

I'm thinking about Moore as well, but I need to pick and choose which ones to attend. It's going to be a busy year. Trying to make a couple events, get our annual base camp trip out west, trying to plan in the Wyoming BDR, get a few local camp weekends in, and plan a wedding. My work leave balance is going to be hurting this year.

I disagree. If I never saw snow again, I could be happy. Parents in their early years of being elderly and a very well paying job and are the only things keeping me here.

been weird these last couple weeks. I normally love winter, but these last 2 years with no snow, I'll take the early spring

Too many false springs for my taste. I’d still take these last few years over the blazing so Florida summer heat

We drove there last year for a road trip. Nice place, just watch out for the giant birds that stand in the roads.
