.270 is perfect! Just don’t have your scope cranked up if you are pushing the timber, (i have carried a lever action 30-30 or 20 gauge in a few areas that are open sights.. again I think it kinda depends on what exactly you are looking to do) but me, my brother and a few family members have receipts in western Wa with a .270 lol a great choice

This past Saturday I took my younger brother hunting. He’s only hunted a few times and has only harvested a doe. He worked his butt off helping me get my camp right after the hurricanes.
I got him set up with a rifle, binoculars, etc. He downloaded a hunting license on the drive up. I took him to a blind with a feeder 120 yards out. I made sure he knew the regulations and told him good luck.
I’m in my tree stand at first light when I get a text. “ I see a buck”. Cool. I’m hunting as well and am hoping to see one too lol. I check the camera where he’s at.

I text him back, it’s just a four point, leave him be. A few minutes go by, he texts me again. “He looks bigger than a four”. So I check the camera again.

Legal light is one minute out. I held my text for 60 long seconds lol. Shoot it!!!
I heard the shot echo out. He texts me back, “It didn’t go down when I shot it”. No worries, we’ll look for it in a few hours. Reload and sit back and enjoy.
9ish I got down from my stand and helped him look for his deer.

I finally got to go out and hunt this weekend. The weather was finally cool- by Fl standards. Come 7:45 yesterday morning I see a deer slipping through the fennels about 65 yards out. His head lifted for a second and I see it’s a decent buck. I got him stopped at 50 yards but he’s partially hidden. A lone fennel was blocking my view of his shoulder. I was confident in my placement so I shot. He took off and did that low to the ground run. Hard to describe but we all know that run. I watched him pile up 75 yards later.

A decent nine- by north Fl standards. Shot was great, heart was no longer attached when I gutted. Happy hunting.

Finally got my first hunt of the season in! I know, I know, I'm super late to the party. .243 never lets me down, dropped a nanny, and got some burger refills for the freezer. To make it even better, my dad joined and was the first time we've ever hunted together. He pretty much stopped hunting when he had kids and hasn't been in 35+ years. I picked up hunting and learned things from my Uncle over the last 5 or so years. Dad was ecstatic to put a doe down as well yesterday. We celebrated with some tenderloin steaks last night .

So I bumped him ~20 minutes after she shot last night. He then ran almost 100 yards with a hole in his neck and 3 legs. If someone tells you deer are way tougher than coyotes, you may wanna check their temperature.

Yep ive seen a coyote shot with 308 still run 40+ yds
