    I am super bummed.

My 2006 PreRunner (4 door, 2WD, Long bed) has what could be terminal frame rot. Its really bad, with perforations all over the rear portion with a leaf spring hanging by a thread.

I do not have the skills/time to do a frame swap. I was quoted $8k by a competent welding shop to patch it up, but I doubt its worth it.

    Two questions"
    1. Is it worth parting out?
    2. Is their a cheaper way forward that does not include me learning how to weld?
    3. Is there a third option I have not considered?

Parting it will get you more money than sending it to the scrapper, but would require the hassle of dealing with a bunch of individual sales with potential shenanigans with each sale. It would also take a heck of a lot longer than just scrapping it.

Some stuff might be worth pulling off before scrapping, especially interior parts - seats, dashboard, glovebox, center console - and listing for sale in the usual places. Takes up less space than the whole truck and those parts have the potential to make some pretty decent money for the effort it takes to pull them out. Even the stock head unit, if it's working, might get you 50 bucks or so from someone going back to stock or replacing their stocker. Check out the WTB threads on here to get an idea of what parts would be in demand, but again, be prepared to stack them up and wait for the right buyer.

Cheaper than welding? It sounds like it's too far gone to consider Saf-T-Caps - those require good metal in the right places to weld onto, but you might check with them - Autorust.com - prepared to send photos and give measurements if they're willing to give suggestions as opposed to sending you to one of their authorized installers for an opinion. If you want a long term project, keep an eye out for someone else's partout with a good frame on it and stack them both up for a DIY swap. Several threads on here about doing it in the backyard without a lift/boom.

    Good luck!!!

Part it out,an almost 20 year old truck is not worth bothering with it.
