My composite is my back-up. lol

I'm glad I got my aluminum almost 2 years ago...I waited to install it but eventually made the switch.

Housing cap is excessively tight on plastic housing three times now. Square drive extension fitted into cap spun the whole plastic assembly and i needed huge channellocks and extra hands above cbi skid plate to separate cap from plastic body.

Am wiping all mating surfaces clean, prelubing seated gaskets, hand tightening both items not wrenching them down. Put cap on gently this time. Are others having this issue?

90% towing with oil Temps consistently 194 to 196 degrees. Am I running hot and baking gasket?

20k did seventh change to date while on the off grid farm. Fumoto and motivix made it super clean and painless. Lots of towing through mountains.

You will probably melt the plastic housing if the o-ring is being baked.

Yep. Believe 194 is a normal temperature?

I ordered the aluminum version and it came in so it's definitely available.

Oh well, I am not surprised he just said " we dont make them anymore ". Considering he told me he didnt know anything about filters , engines or cars in general, while working in Toyota parts. I might just get it i guess and have it around for next oil change.

I wouldn't deal with that guy.
It ask for someone else or go somewhere else.
    They're still made by Toyota.

I did not swap out the center tube. The filter sits the same height--works same as OEM.

It is slightly longer/taller but when I saw how the filter covered it, I felt better knowing the extra length wasn't substantial.

As others have said use a breaker bar and not an impact. I’ve been working on my own cars last 10+ years and always torqued to the “that feels about right” spec. This truck is the first one I’ve ever had with a plastic reusable oil filter housing. I broke the housing on the 3rd oil Change and had to get another from the stealership. The oil filter calls for a 18-ft spec on third gens. It’s really not much. I would highly suggest getting a new housing, torque wrench and an oil filter wrench and never let those “free oil changes” get you again.

Good golly Toyota! Owned a ‘82 Hilux, ‘83 Hilux, ‘98 Tacoma, ‘09 Tacoma, ‘13 Tacoma, and now this ‘23 taco - never has an oil change ever been this involved. Can’t believe on this ‘23 you have to drop the skid plate and rebuild the filter assembly. First time on this truck changing the oil myself, purchased the special filter wrench, tried to take it off with a ratchet and snapped one of the tabs. Grabbed the 1/2” impact and that was the only way to get it off (no side loading). Put it back on using the ratchet, brought it to snug, one extra (light) tug, and shattered all the tabs. No where close to torque specs printed on in the part. I’m no Hercules ladies and gentlemen. Truck only has 10k miles.
Does it just fall apart going down the road on the ‘24 with their new and “improved” engineering methods?!
    this is normal maintenance item

Just ordered the aluminum replacement - I miss the standard metal filters in a convenient location
    (Rant complete )

Motivx adapter that grips the housing at the strongest point: https://www.motivxtools.com
Get 2 ft breaker bar that does NOT impact the housing badly.

It sounds like you need one of these filter wrenches. I’ve been using this wrench every 5K intervals with absolutely no problems.
