    All good.

I always went against the grain and hunted with .260 Rem, 6.5x55 Swede, 7x57 and 8x57. My favorite is 7x57.
But I like those funny metrics anyways. :anonymous:

I had a .280 many years ago, ammo was hard to find for it back then.

.260 Rem is really nice deer round. Hand Loaders dream. Low recoil and accurate.I shot factory loads. 120-125grain pills, it really shines.

Unfortunately, Big Green totally dropped the ball with marketing and it quickly went to the dust bin of cartridges.
Couldn't compete with the likes of 7mm-08 and the herd of 6.5s that came out.
What a shame, it's really nice.

Since ammo scarcity is your current issue, I would check out your local stores to see what the shelves stay most full of. My guess is 308 and 6.5 CM would be quite abundant. There was a time when I couldn't find .243 ammo (or if I did it was Winchester ammo, so I repeat myself) so I acquired a few more calibers. But the more options you have, the better imo

Same around here, have a .243 for my kids, couldn't find ammo for a while for it. Also was looking for some for a friends 30-30, couldn't find it either.

You’re exactly right. I can go into Walmart or the sporting goods shop and they have plenty of 308 and 6.5 CM and even 270.

I almost picked up a 350 legend a few years back because it was the only ammo on shelves, what I had in reserve was enough to get me through the season that year, but I considered several options, especially since I had inherited an AR in 5.56 that was more or less useless to me, my nephew now holds it and has ideas of the thermals and coyotes, that to me seem like a heck of a way to dump a bunch of cash to kill a few coyotes here and there... But I have my own blind spots to frivolous hobby funding as well, I'm sure

I bought a mini-14 a couple years ago in .223 and put a scope on it with intentions of shooting something with it. I haven't even sighted the scope in :anonymous:

Weekend before last I connected on a decent 8 pointer to fill my MO buck tag. Listening to all the old timers, this has been the worst year in recent history. Our camp usually has 3-4 buck down opening morning but myself a buddy were the only lucky ones all weekend. Opening weekend numbers were down 20,000+ from last year.

Watched this guy work up the ridge to the right of my stand right @ daylight but couldn’t get a shot. A few minutes later he comes right down my ridge, nose to the ground directly in front of my stand. Shot him 30 yards out and he ran right past me directly to the bottom of the ridge 50 yards. That was a fun drag uphill.

Serious question: Do you not split the hams when you gut them? And leave the nuts on? Not saying it's wrong, just saying I've never seen it done this way!

    Nice deer though!

Been hunting this buck since early bow season on our property in TN. Droptine, split browtine, and some palmation. Every time I think I have him patterned he switches it up. Seems he likes to daylight during weekdays while I’m at work lol.

My gun opener in TN this past weekend was slow this year as well as MO. Full moon hurt us, but seems like it’s a slow year everywhere for some reason. Hopefully I can get my scope on this guy this weekend after stuffing my gut with some turkey and dressing.

You are not the first person to ask me that! When I field dress I use the butt-out tool on the rectum first and tie it closed with a bread-tie. Then everything comes out clean with no mess - pull rectum up out through the stomach cavity with everything attached. No splitting of the pelvic bone necessary. Also keeps the meat in that area cleaner from contamination IMO.

So most times I just let their ornaments hang as they’re not in my way.
