Can anyone with the bins post pictures from the back? I'm trying to see how much space is available with the bins installed. Also does the install of the cap take up most of the space on the bed rails? I have a few attachments on my rail that I'm hoping to keep on there.

Has anyone used the rails up top to lift/store the cap? Would the rail system be strong enough (or rack attached to the rail system) to suspend the rack while not in use?

The rack allows a 300-pound dynamic load and plenty of strong overhead storage.

I suspect the mfg will never comment due to liability.

Personally, I would add two additional support straps for SHTF situations so it doesn't bonk your head.

Anyone who sleeps in the back have a good solution for bug screen on the windows or wings even?

I just draped a little window fabric screen thing over it the other night but I couldn't find anyone with some kind of solution for the window screens.

I like the "gull wings" left open at night, but pull them down with a rip cord attachment in case of rain.

Plain super magnets are used to hold the bug screen inside the cap. Makes it easy to set up camp or move the following day. Leave extra material near the latch locations so you don't damage the screen (easily repaired with two pieces of duct tape).

Even a simple stick, roll up an excess of the bug net and place magnets along the bug screen.

My old vent filter is disintegrating, is there any aftermarket filter I can get at a hardware store or should I hit up RSI and get one from them?

The factory RSI rails are rated to hold 700+ lbs, they are plenty strong enough to hold a 200lb canopy. I hang mine from them in my shop with some strong ratchet straps.

48 pages and not one color matched. Anyone out there paint or wrap there smartcap?

I’m thinking about getting one and then have it color matched to quicksand.

Have had my eye out for a Leer 100XQ since I think it’s the best looking cap but I’m leaning more towards functionality. I think color matched it would be the clear winner.

Or is anyone good with graphics and can create a 3rd gen access cab with 6ft RSI evo sport in quicksand.

Would love to see some….(please don’t post black on black or white on white. Need to see color lol)

I saw one painted white on a GMC in the Smartcap group on Bookface. I haven't seen one painted to match a Taco. I can't imagine the extra cost, but I bet it would look great.

Just for review, this thing rocks in the snow and cold, with the tent, solid long distance offroad setup, did not disappoint.

    @2Shoes nice set up!

I'm convincing myself that it would look great and it's the way I should go. Almost there!! Wouldn't see other rigs that look like mine, guaranteed waterproof/dust proof, steel>fiberglass, roof load capacity. Ha I think I'm there. Now to just save to afford the top and paint/wrap to do it the day I buy it.

Was it painted white or the white contractor version they sell? I'm curious what a painted rsi would look like

I bought one of the contractor white Smartcaps during the pandemic because the other models were like 6 to 8 months out and I found one at a local shop. I just finished Raptor lining it Sunday and I think it came out great. It was a bit of work taking all the gull wings off and taping all the gaskets and such but like I said I think it was worth it. I left the top white hoping that would help with heat, and I know the inside being white is definitely going to help lighting it up. I'm going to let it harden until next weekend and then put the gull wings back on and reinstall it. I'll post pictures then.

Oh, by the way. My truck is the magnetic gray metallic, it's such a dark color I didn't think it would be worth trying to color match so I just went with black. Cost will be under $200 and a lot of elbow grease.

I assume you just screwed I bolts into the nuts in the rails and latched on to them? I thought about doing this but chickened out. The 700 lb rating is for the truck sitting on the bed and that weight pushing down on it. Not for the force to be pulling on those rails in the opposite direction.

Not to mention the strain on your ceiling. I'd add some extra supports up there and deck it with 3/4ply.
