On my recent purchase of a 2024 Tacoma (with a trade in), the salesperson started looking up financing deals. I interrupted him and said, "I am paying for this with cash. I am going to write you a check." His response .... "What a baller!" I just looked at him and cracked up.

Oh this is a painful thread to read- sorry OP!

I wanted to get a newer Taco someday but now that my kids are grown up and the last one is leaving the nest soon, i’m not as worried about occupant safety as I was before. We have a CRV my wife drives we can use for family visits, so when my 2017 gives up the ghost it’ll be the last new truck I buy. I’m getting something fun like a restored FJ40 for my next vehicle. That and maybe an off-road trailer for camping with it.

They are more likely waiting on Toyota to drag it off their lot.

I think you're making a mistake. If it were me I would counter offer with documentation of my adjusted figures. I would also mention in a nice oh by the way attitude, that their response and this episode is being closely monitored by many members of a Tacoma Forum. I would also check the possibility that your vehicle's value (buy out amount) be used as a trade in offfset at that dealership for sales tax purposes to buy another one. If they offer more, fine, if not I would take their original offer. I would not want a new truck back that has had that kind of extensive work done. Especially by techs unfamiliar with a new model. If I liked the truck as you say you did, I would get another, then decide if I wanted to keep it or not. If you didn't want to keep it, the trade in value would be very high and would be another source of tax offset to make up for the small depreciation when you find a 2023. That way you have options. It's a better way financially and after you cool down you may want to keep it. A have your cake and eat it too strategy.

Perhaps the dealer is bullshitting Toyota as well, minimally re the rental piece. I forget if that refusal was written from the dealer, but I would definitely hammer into the lady on the email that you asked and were refused that.

Yeah, I wouldn't want a dead brand new dead Tacoma sitting on my lot either. When I shop, I take a look at the service area and cars in the service lot.

It’s pretty much a done deal, everything is going as it should, nobody’s trying to fuck him, he’s waiting for Sedwick to schedule the transfer. He will meet the transfer company at the dealership and they will hand them a check.
He is contemplating licking his wounds and getting another realistically, great truck, another 24 Taco…

What slater said. In the part of the process where I'm waiting to here from 3rd party people to get me a check and the deal will be done. Probably a couple more weeks. Started looking at new and used on line and going to shop multiple dealerships (excluding where I bought this one) until I find what I want.

Yeah.... it's been a pain in the ass all around. Trust me I loved everything about the truck. I needed this bullshit in my life like I needed a second asshole!!! Too much other life shit happening so the timing sucked... but this too shall pass and I hope my next truck decision has a more positive result. Thanks for the well wishes brother!

Hoping you at least set the main office straight that you were refused a rental by the dealer after the lie they told

I got 3 bad new trucks with major problems in a row. GMC Denali HD TD,Ford Raptor, and a Tundra. It seems like cost cutting quality even on 80k trucks is hitting every brand. I got a 24 taco because the odds are probably slim that I will get more junk with those already.

The transmission issues seem like a systemic problem. This sounds like a one off, just really bad luck.
Hope you get everything settled to your liking. I swore off Ford after I had transmission issue at 37,500 miles. Just a bit beyond warranty, I was just looking for some help on the bill, never expected them to pick up the entire thing. Ford told me to pound sand. When that Tbird rolled down the drive for the last time, that was it. Nothing but Toyotas since.

Man, what a rough experience. More than the truck, I'd be leery about going back to Toyota after all this, although other manufacturers/dealers may not be much better. The engine issue seems to be more of an isolated incident. Wish you the best on your final decision. After owning all prior generations, the 4th gen looks to be a good one.
