I think I may have the only rwd Tacoma on the planet, LOL. I just got rid of my 4x4 titan for my new Tacoma TTD Sport rwd because I never used the 4x4 and my Titan was high mileage 190k. Every Tacoma I've seen online or on youtube have been 4x4. I'm starting to feel like the odd man out now.

Apparently, you can get a manual rear wheel drive with a locker!

When i bought my 2011 (new) the sales guy and I kept walking back and forth from the 11 to a 12 wondering why the 11 was more expensive, to finally realize the 12 was a 2wd TRD OR, lol.

All those 4x4’s on sale may be drivers who also realized they didn’t need a four-by. Nothing shameful in admitting you don’t use nor need a four-by. So, no, no award for you.

I think of 4 x 4 like a gun or fire extinguisher. Better to have one and not need it.

Still trying to figure out why Toyota won't allow the rear locker to engage in Rwd on 4x4 models with the locker?

Yeah chances are you are going to be in 4x4 when you engage the locker. Come to think of it, don't you have to be in 4lo?

If I ever get an Xtra Cab there's a good possibility it'll be Rwd with out a locker.

I also can't recall if the 4G Prerunner has the rear locker? 2G Prerunner had the rear locker.

From just a usability point of view, you should be able to engage the rear locker independent on whether you’re in four-wheel-drive or high range or low range.

Maybe they are worried about people who are extra special just putting it in lock and driving around for a few thousand miles on the streets.

I drove a lil shy of 90 miles with my locker engaged "on the street". it sucked. My actuator died, with the locker engaged. I knew how to manually unlock it, but that woulda meant laying in the snow under my truck when it was like 25 degrees out so I said F it, and drove home. I woulda rather had ABS and TCS than the locker on that drive home...

Nope. My 78yo Dad just bought a rwd Tacoma. Says it’s awesome. You’re in good company.

I’ve successfully received this award on my first 5 Tacomas.
I called it the TW walk of shame award.

If we could still get 2wd in Canada I would have got one. I had an 18 2.7 2wd I should have held onto that truck forever

    Not much really. Just touches.
You'd be silly to buy a 4x4 in Florida if you aren't driving on the sand. Lower price and better mpg.

Honestly if you have to ask this question then you have doubts in your gut feeling…myself i would never buy anything unless 4 wheel drive….ive had them since i was 18, im 58 and never a regret… if the truck fits your needs, budget then follow what you feel….theres many guys that have amazing trucks here, they put a lot of time into their trucks and they are a very dedicated bunch of guys, If you live in new england, or snow country i wouldnt ever buy a 2 wheel drive truck…however in south, or areas 4 wheel drive isnt a need ….just get a pre runner dress how you like

I have a RWD, It's all ive ever owned, never had a need for 4wd.
Should I ever discover the need or desire for 4wd then i will look into adding 2 more wheels to my truck but for now i'm content.
