I think those were the "vintage" Craftsman but I don't remember what "vintage" means since '90s stuff is vintage now.

    Right?

All my Craftsman tools are from the late 90's and early 00's so they all *should* be made in the USA.

Still, I think I need to upgrade my metric socket collection with a set made with better tolerances.

The Craftsman V-Series liquidation at Lowe's over the past few weeks seemed like a nice buy if you were a lucky enough to find them in stock.

I grabbed one of these: https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-...rive-Metric-6-Point-Tool-Set-18-pc/5005374881

but missed out on the 3/8 deep sockets.

I'm not super picky about sockets though. These seem nicely made but I can't comment on their tolerances.

Looks like a nice complete set

Trying not to sound like a fanboy but I find my Milwaukee sockets grabbing better than my Craftsman set so I'll keep using those

But the Tekton has that oxide finish and I think it's texture (and maybe being overcoated) made it "tight" enough to work

It's the exact socket type I used when I pulled the bolts off the thermostat housing on a 3.4

Wonder if I should just buy individual sockets...

Fanboy if you want, I won't be offended.

For whatever it's worth, I'm specifically interested in the V-Series because they're meant to be Craftsman's premium tools. Much of the line appears to be badge-engineered from Facom designs: https://www.facom.com/product/jldbox1pb/38-dbox-twist-handle-ratchet-socket-set-18-pc?tid=610056

I'm not sure what's going on with V-Series. Lowe's seems to be liquidating all of their inventory for around 50% MSRP but other vendors (Amazon, ACE Hardware) aren't offering the same discounts. Maybe SBD is discontinuing the line, or maybe Lowe's is dropping them, or maybe it's just a holiday promotion.

The Metric set shows for $40, it's what you grabbed right?

I don't mind owning another set especially at the price.

Yep, I got both metric and SAE in 3/8 drive, for $40 each.

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you pick them up.

I haven't put them to work yet but my initial impression: The sockets seem well-made, the locking extension is a perk, the ratchet seems underwhelming.

    Just ordered :fistbump:

I'm a sucker for small complete tool sets as they come in handy.

Same reason I bought it. I have plenty of sockets already, but I like how neatly packaged this set is. It's living in the trunk of my Civic as an 'in case of emergency' kit.

The case is based on rubber supports rather than blow-molded, so I think I can even swap the ratchet out for a nicer one.

Sooner I can find an appropriately sized box, the sooner I can send @0xDEADBEEF that molle panel so he can share with me the convenient means of latching it to the rear hatch

I'll build a small tool kit to carry the essentials that the factory kit doesn't provide
