I have no idea how stones chipped paint. Mine is black and I got caught in the hurricane, tree benches etc bs but no chips. Must have been off roading when that happened prob, too sad but maybe you can find cheaper to repair it. 4K sounds too much

I used to live in Florida and have seen how fast metal rusts. I kept spraying places like that with rust preventative, but that must be done when it is a little scratch. Problem with rust, is once it gets on the inside metal, no amount of outside body work will fix it. Being at the windshield will also cause water leaks eventually.

What about fixing it, but instead of painting, put some vinyl wrap over the top? Just an idea.

Funny you mention that. That actually was my first thought. Get it fixed, maybe paint it and then wrap for extra protection. Thought it would look good against the lunar rock color too. But not sure if it would be worse and maybe trap moisture or not. Plus I’ve seen some peeling and they look horrible. But I imagine there’s a lot of variables with wraps.

I think if you fixed it, it would be okay to wrap.

Well, I just dropped off my truck at Toyota. After months of back and forth, Toyota is covering the repair and the rental car. It took a while but I got an awesome representative on the phone at corporate and I think she made the difference. Hopefully the repair goes well. Thanks for all of your input. Happy New Year!

Glad you got it sorted. Windshield removal is necessary to stop the rust (cancer) from spreading. they will likely also peel back the headliner to make sure all the rust is gone. Bad spot to rust because it will spread to the windshield flange and just exponentially get worse from there.

Excellent. That would have been rusted through in less then a year.

Roofs get neglected due to height IF you spot an issue, I see no reason for companies to not anti corrosion dip roof panels on vehicles due to the high cost of even a cheap vehicle. 40-50K or more, take the management responsible out back and cull them. [I mean fire]

What is funny is that a trim piece, either rubber or metal over the gap would have not allowed it to happen. [like most vehicles used to have around the windshield] I looked at my other two vehicles and both have that gap and lip covered.

I thought the same thing about a trim piece in that gap. Seems logical. But as usual, logic doesn’t dictate. Hopefully the repair will last.
