    I always change oil with the engine cold no expansion and the o ring lubed from previous oil change never any issues spins right off.

    Composite expands less than aluminum.
    Aluminum has a higher thermal expansion

    All I know is like I explained...

    The Aluminum was easier to remove than the composite when I applied the same torque.

    Most likely the OEM is made of Delrin. Delrin has a better performance over aluminum in certain applications. Filter housing is one of them.

    I have the composite as a back-up.

    They both work the same...I just hope I never break these housing units...regardless.

    not as good of an idea. changing the oil warmed up ensures that contaminates are held in suspension, so they get out of the motor, where they can't cause damage.

    I’m 65 yrs. old been changing my own oil for 45 years haven’t lost an engine yet and have never broke a filter canister on my Tacoma. Lol

    I don't know what to tell you. I've been changing this type of cartridge on prius before 3rd gen came out. Has not broken yet one on prius

    I had a plastic filter housing break on a Camry. I had to take another vehicle to Toyota about 30 miles each way to buy a replacement. Now the Camry and Tacoma have the aluminum alloy housings. Simply put, aluminum alloys typically have a higher tensile strength than plastic when shaped into the same form.

    Has anyone had the aluminum alloy version break?
