Hello! New here and first post. I searched and i didnt find a lot on the topic but i am looking to replace the factory brake lines in the rear of my 23 tacoma because i cant jack up the back of my truck without really stretching the lines.

Anyone have experience with a good quality extended line?

I’m going to assume that you actually need extended brake lines because are running long travel suspension. If you are using OEM replacement shocks (ie shocks with a similar extended length as stock shocks), you don’t need extended brake lines. Here is a google search that turns up several options. I used the search phrase “tacoma extended brake lines”.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=tacoma+extended+brake+lines&client=safari&sca_esv=b860f2b0131a04f3&hl=en-us&sxsrf=ADLYWIJ69ISGQ-KOIa0b0T2E98vAFT881w:1732835335922&ei=B_hIZ9KCOMr-ptQP1Y_LkAw&oq=tacoma+extended+brake+lines&gs_lp=EhNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwIht0YWNvbWEgZXh0ZW5kZWQgYnJha2UgbGluZXMyChAjGIAEGCcYigUyBhAAGAcYHjIGEAAYBxgeMgYQABgFGB4yBhAAGAUYHjIGEAAYBRgeMgYQABgFGB4yBhAAGAUYHkjQLVDyG1i7KHACeACQAQGYAboBoAHQCaoBAzAuOLgBA8gBAPgBAZgCBqAC7QTCAgoQABiwAxjWBBhHwgIHECMYsAIYJ8ICCBAAGAUYDRgewgIIEAAYBxgIGB7CAggQABgFGAcYHpgDAIgGAZAGCJIHAzIuNKAH1TQ&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp

If you were looking specifically for Tacomaworld posts, you can use something like “Tacomaworld extended brake lines” or “site:Tacomaworld.com extended brake lines”

One last comment… the Toyota recommended jack points on the rear are on the axle, not the frame. If you use the axle, your brake lines will not be stretched.

Thanks. Yep thats recommended by toyota. What abiut when youre changing suspension? If you jack up the truck by the axle then you cant change the springs or shocks.

OP, you can gain an extra inch of brake line stretch by temporarily unbolting the lower joining bracket and bending the hard lines up a little.

Jack up the rear under the pumpkin and then jackstand up the rear of the frame ahead of the front leaf spring bracket. Lower the jack to let the suspension fully droop. The stock length shocks limit the droop of the leaf pack. Keep the jack supporting in place while unbolting the lower shock mounts to control the lowering of the axle further while watching the stretch on brake lines.

Most work can be done and longer brake lines are only necessary if you're going to install longer shocks to allow more droop unrestrained (as allowed by the leaf pack).

If you are changing out leaf springs to provide lift and allow more droop to be achieved through longer shocks, extended brake lines become necessary.

Longer brake lines do provide more space and movement freedom for rear work if so inclined to install for that reason alone.

I installed the Yotomafia steel braid lines on my Tacoma and the Dobinsons lines on my FJ, both for longer travel, and both have worked out fine.

Remove the brake line bracket nuts from the rear axle. Jack up the rear by the pumpkin, place big ole jack stands under the frame, then you can raise and lower the rear axle as needed for install.

also, I used the OEM bottle jack to raise and lower the side of the axle I am working on. And put the wheels under your frame in front of the jack stands as a backup in case the stands fail.

you can see the blue painter's tape where I taped the brake line bracket bolts into place so I don't lose them until re-attaching later

I don’t disagree. You didn’t specify what you were doing, so I added that information just in case it helped you.

I think what is more important is that you don’t generally need extended brake lines if you have shocks that have approximately the same extended length as the stock shocks, which is true of all OEM replacement shocks AFAIK. It’s a common misconception that a person needs to get extended brake lines after installing a lift.

You only need extended brake lines if you are using shocks that are significantly longer than stock. These are often referred to as “universal fit” shocks. Typically only people installing long travel IFS, rear shock relocation kits, etc. are buying those type of shocks.
