Outstanding idea. I have plenty of smaller sticky sanding disks for my orbital sander. I could stick a couple in a line. There's definitely room to slide some cardboard or poster board under in the areas where there is clearance.

There is no threshold.

 

grind or plane the deck or a sanding disk mentioned earlier .

 

The floor is stone. Sanding disk/rasp on bottom of the door is pretty much the only option. The doors open in.

For clarification. There's a short brick walkway from the driveway to the main entry door in an alcove. The stone floor starts at that door. About 6ft in is another entry door (same as the other one). The stone continues for several feet before it transitions to hardwood flooring.

 

I was thinking if the discs don’t work you could use a sanding belt cut into a long strip as well.

 

Almost 4" thick solid wood entry door! I wish they sold those at Home Depot.

 

If they did, we wouldn't be able to afford it.

 

Think of the size of the tree they had to harvest.

edit: Probably cut down by hand too.

I'll see if I can get a pic. It's a very very wealthy/well known family and I'm reluctant to post things publicly. I'll run it by the onsite property manager.

Many such families have vacation/2nd homes here in Maine, right on the ocean.

 

You should see all the hand carved decorative trim features in this place. I just stand and look in awe. Floor to ceiling wood in many rooms.

 

It's not a solid piece of wood. Does have rails & stiles. But still just under 4" thick.

Can't imagine what something like that would cost now.

Is there any room under the door through any of its swing arc or does it rub everywhere through the arc ? If there is room at some point I would consider something like using spray adhesive to put an aggressive sanding paper on a flat surface like plywood or 1/8" aluminum sheet , put it under the door and swing the door back and forth on the sanding media to remove material . It would be hard to get a decent cut across 4" of thickness with any kind of saw with the door hanging

 

The door seems to be hitting/rubbing in a couple of spots and first rubs when open about 1/3 of the way.

Per the advice/recommendation of @Pointeman, I grabbed some 18" belt sander belts in 80 & 120. Plan A is to cut the belts in half, open the door partially, slide a couple of the cut belts under the door and in the area it's rubbing the stone. Then I'm going to put one foot on each end of the cut belts to hold them in place, with the door between my legs I'll slowly swing the door and let the sandpaper do it's thing. (I'm pretty flexible so I'll have plenty of swing room). I'm hoping that'll be enough to remove enough material to stop the rubbing. I think only about an 1/8" needs to be removed.

If I can create enough space under the door, I'll pull the sanding sheets back and forth while applying upward pressure.
